New bike Stoke - New bike for me!

As some you may know I have been riding an old 26er HT for while now. Built the bike back in 2003, rode it a bit and put it away. I dusted it off in 2012 and have been riding it hard since. Scoffed at the idea of needing things like 29in wheels, disc brakes. Ha who needs that. And there some thing to be said for that. Need proof...

I pulled this off in February

And don't let the 5 person team fool you... I was in fact the fastest person that team. 1:07 best lap and my slow lap was 1:14.58. All on ancient bike...

Well at that race one my teammates was picked up a new bike and was looking to unload his old bike. So after a few miles testing it I pulled the trigger. Price was right and liked the bike. I did not race it because it was not dialed in.

Here it is once fully dialed in 2012 Santa Cruz Highball Carbon 29er. 23.1 lbs without the light, but with the big 2.35 ikon on up front. Still has a 3x9 drive train with custom 20/30/38 chainring and 11-34 cassette set-up, but otherwise pretty modern.

So what are results? Love it.

The bike is lighter - 3lbs lighter so it is faster, The bike has big wheels which roll over stuff better so it is faster. The bike is stiffer so it puts more power down than my 26er so it is faster. Manuverability is just as good as my 26er and brakes are much better so it is faster. Downside... I will let you know when I find one..

    Full specs
2012 Santa Cruz Highball Medium Frame
Fox Float 32 29 fork - 120 mm with through axle
Trutaive Carbon handle bar. 700 mm ish wide
Avid Elixer CR-Mag front brake 160mm
Avid Sram XO rear brake 140 mm (there is story on why the brakes don't match)
    Stan Crest front and rear
Maxxis Ikon 2.35 front Maxxis Ignitor 2.10 rear (Probably will be replaced with a Bonty XR3 2.2 when it wears out)
Vintage XTR 5 bolt crank set with custom 20/30/38 chain rings. XTR front derailuer and shifter
XO rear derailuer and shifter with 9 speed XT 11-34 cassette
    Syntace P6 carbon seat post.
Forte saddle I pulled off my 26er

The old 26er has not been ridden since the 24HOP.

Sweet bike! I had a bike with rim brakes up until 2014.
