I rode a long way today...

Finally, I mustered up the huevos to do the ride I'd planned for most of the summer. Start at the bottom of Schultz Creek... ride north, up the AZT, east on FR418, up to the inner basin trail. Planned to ride to 10kft, but the IB trail was a beatdown; figured I need to save a few "matches" to burn for the way back. So I stopped about a 1/2 mile up the IB trail and turned around. Kinda figured it was the last >70F day this fall with no chance of rain that I could pull off a long, all day ride close to 70 miles. The day was as good as it gets...
    perfect...

Riding on a carpet of yellow at times...

    Arrived...at Locket Meadow...

On the way back to the AZT...

    The final ride stats....I'm tired...

Really nice ride, congrats! Just wondering if it was possible to make a complete loop around the peaks, that could be really nice too.

Nicely done Ray, I've been wondering if you were going to make a late season charge for that one! Love the second shot.

Killer ride and killer pace. Impressive. How many more miles to get to 10k? I mapped this out in TF after you mentioned it, and didn't see a clear route from 418 to IB trail. Any troubles making over there? The Garmin map makes it look like no problem compared to My Topo in TF. This is one to think about for next year, for sure. (And I just bought a sleeping pad, so you know what pace I'm going!)
Today's the day I eat bikes.

Thanks all...yah, I stopped short of reaching 10kft by about 3 miles...a tough 3 miles. The ib trail starts right at the back of lockett meadow campground. You can see the fire came right up to the trail in places. Someday when waterline road opens, you'll be able to round the peak. The unfortunate part of the ride is the section along 418...you descend down to about 7400to then have to climb back.

that's more-or-less the Crazy88 route in reverse - dunno if it will ever be a race again, or if it would use the AZT vs. some of the techier stuff down Gimpy's Gully and the mototracks. 418 gets long cause you start the race with an hour climb up the now-defunct Waterline road.

    anywho...nice ride!
