Help with finding water at Picket Post

It's finally happening. Friday we will set out from picket post trailhead to Kelvin. Spending the night somewhere near 14 mile mark before the 6 mile descent. Can anyone provide somewhat clear directions to find the Gila River at the bottom of the descent? I plan on being out of water and from what I have read it's not obvious where to pick up the river for sanitizing. Thanks.

It's really not too tough. Just before the bottom the singletrack will dump you onto a jeep road that descends down the final pitch, the AZT makes a 90 left at the bottom of this hill. Stay straight, but veer right after a 100 yards or so onto a well traveled dirt road. There appears to be a trail heading straight down to the river at this point, but there's a bunch of bushwacking involved at this location, so stay on the dirt road heading west for roughly a quarter mile. It will dip through a rather large depression and there will be an opening in the trees to the left. This is the access point for easy filtering. 4x4's can often drive through the Gila here in low water to arrive in Cochran (only a placename now, nothing there). If you look closely at the track below, you'll see the short spur at the river for a bit more clarity. Have fun out there, it's a fantastic route!!

    Map

I always bring much more liquid than I think I'll need. But someone always brings too little. So I blew up your track and added mile markers. It's just after mile 20. It looks like that road goes straight across the river. Why not just continue on? Is it difficult to get to the river at that point? I'm going back in about 10 days.

EDR, just follow John's track with that spur. REAL EASY ACCESS to the river at that point.

Well we're almost there now. And I'm reading this on my phone so I'm not seeing any GPS tracks. Will scan it out thanks for the replies.
