    Garmin maps of trail systems

I'm new to the world of Garmin for actual GPS functions, as the 705 that I have was really only used as a head for a powermeter on my road bike.

Is there a good repository for mountain bike trail systems and/or rides? I tried looking on mapmyride, but there's so many 5 mile around the neighborhood types of rides labeled "mountain" searching is painful.

Plus, I remember running some of the trails and adding about 5 miles because a switchback I missed took me completely off course and ended up lost.

What exactly are you looking for? Trail system maps or popular routes to follow?

If you want a good selection of routes to download & follow, poke around in the GPX library. There's everything from popular afternoon spins to multiday excursions.

Here is another great guide on how to load free topo maps on your Garmin (in addition to the GPX library freeskier posted above):

It's not for your Garmin, but if you have a smartphone, download an app called Maprika. I've uploaded a lot of maps of local trail systems and dropped GPS anchors at major intersections. The point is that your phone will display your GPS location on whatever trail map you are viewing. It's tremendously helpful for someone new to a trail system.

Btw, in that link Freeskier posted above,
You'll find an excel file that is the index for all those rides. It lists distance, vert, and some general comments.
