    Flag dtown route to Schnebly.

What's the best route to get from downtown Flag to Schnebly without hitting too much road? Does 89 have a connector through the forest? Urban trail to FS road? Thanks!

"Best" is subjective but you'll probably need to incorporate FUTS, Old Munds and a little road...

I think you can connect the Highland Trail to Old Mund's via a short section of forest road without having to go on pavement in Kachina Village proper.

You can see in this map (on the expanded view of Fort Tuthill) :

Where the Highlands Trail turns south from east, I think you can get to Old Mund's from there.

If this is possible then I'll have a completely non-paved route from Mountainaire to Flag! I'm going to check it out this weekend!

Awesome! Plan is to start at the top of Mt Elden-Sunset-Schultz-Town-Schnebly-Sleep/Camp on the Rim-Old Munds-Hangover and back to Oak Creek Brewery for early suds!

There are a couple of us who were considering following Chalkpaw's GPS track down there this fall. Keep us posted there might be a group of like-minded crazies available to go with you.

that's not exactly accurate, tho by intent it's probably still the 'best' route, i think. the last mile or so of old munds from the cattle guard to mountainaire road is now paved... of course, mountainaire road is paved, too, and has been for a looong time.

I should clarify I guess. I'll have a completely non-paved route from the back door of our cabin in Mountainaire to Flag!

I did this about 4 years ago. Flagstaff to Midgley Bridge. Took Urban trail to old munds, forest roads to the back of Munds Park, and hit the freeway from Munds Park to the Schnebly exit. Down to the creek. About 40 miles total.

Now you could go on the Highlands trail from Fort Tut Hill into Kachina.
