    Colorado TR

Over labor day weekend I made the lengthy drive to Vail, Colorado to meet up with Zinger who is on Holiday once again from the UK. Since we had two cars we did some shuttle rides. First up was Shrine Pass to Bowman's cutoff. The reward is a 9 mile and 4000' downhill on the Two Elk trail through the back bowls of Vail. High, open meadows are followed by a fun chunky descent along Two Elk Creek to the little town of Minturn.

photo credits go to Zinger for some of these pics.

    Colorado Trail

The next day we left a car in Breckenridge and made the rather lengthy drive to Kenosha Pass on hwy 285. 31 miles and 8 hours later we were in Breckenridge after riding this beautiful but challenging segment of the Colorado Trail. Lots of tree roots on the climbs suck up extra energy. You also have to crest Georgia Pass at 11,585' with amazing views of Mt. Guyot. After a rocky downhill there's another 1500' climb up West Ridge before a fast downhill through the trees to Breckenridge. The end tally was almost 5000' of climbing.

Looks awesome Rockman. Guyot looks like it's got some killer lines for skiing if it's the mountain in those pictures.

After waiting out the rain we hit Monarch Crest. There's several options for dropping off the ridge but 15 miles of traversing and climbing brings you to Silver Creek. A fun and fast downhill. You can finish out on a dirt road or hit the Rainbow Trail which contours up and down along the side of the Silver Creek drainage. This 35 mile ride ride should be on everyone's bucket list. 2500' of climbing with 6000' of descending although some of that is on 6 miles of pavement on hwy 285 to Poncha Springs.

Thanks! The aspens were just starting to show hints of turning a week ago so you should hopefully get some color. Not that green is all that bad either.
