BCT Trail Building Event Sat 12/01 - CANCELLED

    Hi all!
There is another BCT trail building event scheduled for this sat if it does not rain Fri/Sat. Below is the email sent to me from Bob Cothern of the BCT coalition.

See you this Sat. if it stay dry!

NOTE: It is approx. a 2-mile hike out to the base of the worksite and another mile to the work area. You can either hike or mtn bike out to the site where we meet and all need to hike the last portion to the work area. The other option is to bring a 4x4 with high clearance and drive down to the site. It is not far by vehicle but there are some rough sections and some small water crossings. Some of us have extra room in our 4x4's so it will depend on how many show up and how many 4x4's we get out there.

Last event, we had pack horses/ponies to carry up the heavy tools like the picks & coolers of bottled water. We only had to carry the lighter tools up to the work area.

Again, all this will depend on if it rains Fri or Sat. Which may also affect the water crossings if they get alot of rain up north and the river starts flowing.

November 17th was another outstanding workday on the Black Canyon Trail. We completed about 1300 ft! Still more to accomplish before our January 12th grand opening event, but we will make it if we continue to have good volunteer turnouts. We could, of course, complete more mileage with more volunteers!

There is one caveat for this Saturday...if it rains Friday, or Saturday morning, the workday will be cancelled. We don't want to damage the existing trail by hiking to the worksite in mud.

    Hope to see you Saturday,

Date: December 1, 2007 (will be cancelled if it rains Friday or Saturday)
    Time: 8:00 AM
Meet At: BCC Trailhead, Black Canyon City, AZ
Work Location: Skyline Trail Segment of the Black Canyon Trail

    Contact Information: Bob@bctaz.com

Activities: Construct non-motorized trail using accepted trail building techniques and hand tools along previously flagged route.
This is a physical activity requiring certain health and safety considerations. Please be aware of your personal physical condition, wear appropriate attire, such as long sleeves and hat if you are sun sensitive, gloves and sturdy footwear.
Bring sun screen, your own soft or sports drinks and snacks. We will provide bottled water and lunch.

Tools to be used: Pulaski, McCloud, shovel, pick mattock, limb lopper and pruning saw. Tools will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own if they are marked for easy identification.

Directions: From Interstate 17, either direction: take exit 242 (Black Canyon City), turn west, proceed to stop sign, then turn north on the frontage road, drive approximately 290 ft to the first road on left, turn left on Warner Rd, drive approximately 1290 ft to first crossroad, turn right and proceed approximately 430 ft to parking area at the end of the road. Directional signs will be posted.

If you have a mountain bike, you can bring it and ride the trail to the worksite, which is approximately two miles from the trailhead. Tools will be delivered to a point near the worksite.

I got one hell of a good mud ride in at lunch time - we had a rooster tail contest to see who could fill the vents on the top of their helmet

I'm going to guess this means no trail day tomorrow. I'm going to miss pie.

    Okay. It's officially CANCELLED!

This via Bob Cothern of the BCT Coalition:

Due to continuous, periodically heavy, rainfall, the trail workday for Saturday, December 1st, is cancelled. Please come on December 15th.

    also...from a separate email...

We have standing puddles everywhere and the river is up and running fast. The trail and trailhead parking area are mud traps and we wouldn't be able to cross the river. Let your rider friends know this is not the weekend to ride here.

On a positive note, the pro trail crews are making very good progress, even through a couple of tough sections. There are 13 of them and they will be here all next week, then off a week or two, and back for another two weeks. There is still plenty of work to do, but we should get it done in time for the grand opening bash.

    Enjoy your day off!
