    BCT questions

Thinking of doing the gnar gnar shuttle on the BCT from Antelope Creek TH back to Rock Springs and had a couple questions.

    1) Is GPS almost required or is it marked pretty well and wont be an issue with maps?

    2) How is the K-mine segment. Looks to be almost all jeep road. Is it any fun?

Route is marked well enough, I'm going to assume you're talking about Epicrider's BCT maps, if so, you should be good to go. The K-mine section of jeep roads is pretty fun IMO, fast & flowy as far as jeep roads go.

I say get the most for your shuttle buck & tack on the Skyline/LPL lollipop for a robust 55 miler!!

Totally agree w Freeskier... Have copies of dales maps and you should be fine. There are a handful of places where the trail crosses the road and the continuation on the other side is not marked. (Like just south of bumblebee). I would not want to ride it if I didn't have either maps or a GPS w the track loaded.

Here are the cues I'd put together last fall for the AES ride...Note mileages are wrt the start so subtract 21.9 from all of them.

21.9 BCT singletrack starts on your right…be careful, but ready to ride a big pump track!
25.6 BCT crosses Crown King Rd, old rusty tank on right, corral on left (treatable water on south end of corral)
25.7 Cross Rd and take dirt rd 20 yards, BCT sign on left
27.1 Cross ….rd, trail picks up on other side
30.2 Cross ….rd, trail picks up on other side
31.7 Come to Green Gate, go through it and continue on double track (don't forget to close it)
31.9 Left and down through wash and right turn onto Crown King Rd heading south
32.1 Go over concrete bridge (you rode over this a bit ago but in the opposite direction)
32.2 Turn left on Doubletrack at Green Milepost 4 sign (EASY TO MISS)
32.3 Turn right up rocky stagecoach doubletrack
    33 Back on Singletrack
36.3 Cross paved rd w Gloriana Trailhead parking area across street, look for trail starting at south end
38.7 Merge with double track, fence on right up ahead
38.9 Left on singletrack (EASY TO MISS), don't continue on doubletrack
39.7 Cross Maggie Mine Rd, look for singletrack on far side
39.9 Descend down rocky doubletrack…just imagine if you were riding in a covered wagon how much this would suck
41.1 Right off 2 track and through gate…EASY TO MISS
41.4 Cross Black Canyon River and climb out other side
43.3 Right turn on major dirt road and short climb
43.4 Trail picks up on left as major dirt road curves to right
    44.8 Merge w/ doubletrack
45.1 Right at 3 boot (really, look for the boots on the ground) junction
46 Veer left and climb hill, still on 2 track
46.2 Careful if fence at bottom of rd is closed
46.4 Right turn on double track…SUPER EASY TO MISS
46.6 Left on singletrack (EASY TO MISS)
47.2 Cross Agua Fria, look for trail directly across
47.6 Climb 8 switchbacks…kudos if you don't dab any of them
    48.6 Left at trail junction
49.3 Back in lot…you're done! Note your time and log it on the sheet

Can you go straight here now? Looks like there is single track here in Google earth.

I am perpetually lost on trails and after a cursory glance at the map I successfully nagivated back to the parking lot by the pie stand in Black Canyon City. It can definitely be done. I rode from the top down past bumblebee to the parking lot. It's a nice trail. It's no 5-6" travel bike trail. I had more fun on my hardtail than on my FSR. I'm told that the lollipop from the black canyon parking lot west and back around is more fun for a full travel bike.

Marth 16th. Was going to do the PicketPost AZSF ride but my bother-in-law is in town and Im not sure he could pull that one off. Im thinking the BCT from Antelope Creek to Rock Springs would be ok.

We always have maps in the van and our drivers are very knowledgable about hidden turn off's etc. Thanks for all the info guys and girls! We'll be out there twice this week! Saturday and Sunday! 8am and 10am from Black Canyon TH.

[email protected] to confirm your spot or for questions!

Thanks and enjoy this fine sunny day!
