    AZ Tour Divide Riders

    T - thanks for posting.

Saw the documentary for this last year up in Prescott with my son. Ever since been very reading up more on the race.

Ran into Tyler on the west side of SOMO last Saturday and the guy I was riding with told me he was doing the race.

So was actually going to post myself as I thought it was pretty cool we had some locals doing the race.

    Rock on boys!!

    Found this article this morning:

    AZ Tour Divide Riders

The Tour divide self supported "race" is kicking off this Friday and AZ has a few local hero's participating:

DJ Birtch - SS Freak from Tuscon and Niner Factory Rider (Info on following blog: http://pushpedalcrank.com/)
Taylor Lideen - Current 24 Hour U25 world champion from Phoenix
Matt Porembski - Phoenix road and mountain biker that rides with the Bike Ranch crew
Jon Pettit - SMC Rider and FAAAST phoenix racer!!

The event starts in Banff, AB Canada this Friday and the riders ride self supported 2745 miles to Antelope Wells, NM. Best time wins!! You can follow the racers and there's s tons of info at the following website:

    http://tourdivide.org/

Its pretty cool because most of the racers have tracking devices so you can follow their progress real time - and the phone messages are AWESOME!!! I will be following this very closely over the next few weeks and living vicariously through these bad a$$es!!!

Good luck to everyone that is participating this year!!

Just follow up, if you have not seen the Documentary Ride the Divide, do yourself a favor and rent it. It's well worth it, and make that damn Leadville movie look silly.

There was also a really good article in Outside Mag I believe last year on the race.

I was wondering the same thing about Dejay and Jake - why have they not started yet? There are pictures of them at the start looking ready to go... probably forgot their tracker thingies!!

Anyway, here's a link to some pics and a write up of the start:

Good luck & safe travels to all that are riding. That is one looong freakin ride. After I watched the movie and seeing what they go through, I could only dream to be able to do something that fantastic.

Crazy Larry said a few of the Spots weren't working at the start, Dejay's may have been one of them. He's got it on now, in Eureka, MT @ 4:30PM on Saturday.

+1 and FYI it will be on again on the Documentary Channel (Direct TV 267) on Monday June 20th at 5PM & 8PM.

I enjoyed both movies for different reasons.

Taylor is out. His blog said he had some personal problems and couldnt continue. That must suck for him, to do all that training and go up there and have to DNF so early. But he is young enough to try again for many years!

Yes Abe, if you want to individual time trial (ITT) the course, you can ride it either direction though the most popular route is North to South.

Divide racing may be challenged at any time, however, TD emphasis is on a 2nd Friday in June (southbound) 'grand départ'.

Just watched "Ride the Divide". Amazing. Kind of makes your typical weekend 5 hour "epic" ride seem pretty insignificant. Truly hard core.

Not sure if anyone else has been following the riders at all. Maybe I am just living vicariously through their riding!

Dejay has moved up to 13th place and in a town tonight with some other riders so could move up in the standings.

Two front guys are only 30 miles apart and look to be only 2-3 days from finishing!

2nd place is an SSer, right up your alley BMB. I've been watching the race daily, particularly Jon. Amazing feat of endurance and emotional fortitude, for all involved.

Jefe is really doing well. I wonder what gearing he is running? Do you know what happened to Jon the first few days? His stats show he was off the bike for almost 3 days.
