AZ Photo Friday - September 5th, 2014 - National Be Late For Something Day

I'm usually punctual but I'm sure I can find something to procrastinate about.

Happy National Be Late For Something Day.

Dropped down HH on the way back from a ride around McDowells and took a photo of the trailhead sign.

The light at this end of the tunnel.

    Nice sunrise behind the McDowells.

Nice shots Gill, I think that's an appropriate title since I was late to work every day this week!! Perhaps the residual effect coming off the 3-day Kaibab ride....

    There was plenty of this:

    Some interesting finds:

    Some buff singletrack:

    Eerily quiet campsite with water:

Off the charts views at Pt. Sublime:

One of the coolest park signs anywhere:

Meadow singletrack on a chilly morning:

Vermilion Cliffs and a faint Navajo Mtn. on the horizon:

    All done!

I took the fat bikes up to Moab for a few days,we road a lot of the slick rock at the sand flats trail area then did an amazing loop on the new Intrepid trail system at Dead Horse Point State park, a must ride for big views and fun singletrack

This is one of the 2 pics I took last weekend on the Kaibab where I was demonstrating to Bart what happens when you don't hydrate and fuel properly. Luckily there were no pics of me in a fetal position laying on the concrete at the gas station. AZ Photo Friday - September 5th, 2014 - National Be Late For Something Day-photo-60-.jpg

Looks like a great trip John! I would like to do a bikepack up there at some point. Did you join in the Navajo trail you found last year or is that for a different route?

We considered AZ for the long weekend but decided to make the trip north in search of granite and hot springs instead

Awesome after an 8 hr drive

Nice views on day 1 but no granite

Hit the motherlode on day 2

We also made some new friends. This one stuck to my back tire for 1/4mi til we had to hop a fence

My camera sucks so here is a quick pov clip from riding Sunset. It's nothing special but it's such a good section.

Wow! Is this around Mammoth? It's gotta be somewhere on the Eastern Sierra.

Nice trip yourself, Evan. I need to check out the Sierras at some point soon. The Navajo Trail loop from last year is farther to the north including AZT passages 42, 43. This route started and ended in Jacob Lake, hitting the Rainbow Rim trail from the west, an OnB to Point Sublime, the North Rim, and then the AZT back to J.L. on passages 39, 40, 41.

He's been carpet bombing MTBR with videos of this area but he wasn't on this trip. He's been permanently removed from my social calendar and ride invite list. I'd be happy to explain why over a beer sometime. People who know him from mtbr post would probably get a good laugh over some of the stories....

There is a lot of riding in CA you need to check out! Sierras are amazing. I'm also putting together a new bike pack route that you will get a kick out of. There is also potential for a whole series of AES style rides though I don't know if I have the time to put all that together.
