The secret to mountain biking is pretty simple. The slower you go the more likely it is you’ll crash.

    Quasi-quad bypass

Dag Nabbit and I took a different approach at a quad bypass (sort of) ride today, had to get out & enjoy the cooler temps. We counted the Gateway saddle as a bypass jr. there is a summit sign, so why not? Our route for the day was: Dixie Mine TH -> Prospector -> Bell -> Gateway -> Windgate -> Tom's Thumb via East End -> North End -> Rock Knob -> Pemberton -> Coachwhip -> Dixie Mine.

Great time out there on the mountain yesterday. Nice beatdown to bring on the season. Lots of good stuff we rode, and hiked.

    East End.

If there's no HAB, then you're just out riding your bike.

    Tom's Thumb and Glass Dome.

    View from the North End.

Finally saw my first rattler. Had to travel to Bootleg Canyon to do it. It was dark and we were riding with lights when I passed right by him on the side of the trail. I was maybe 8" from him when I passed by and finally realized what I saw.

He moved off the path before I could get some shots of him out of concealment. If he'd been in the rocks like the photo above I would have never seen him. The shot on the left he's looking at me, seemingly a little more relaxed. On the right he's a little more tense and rattled a couple times and another rider got a picture.

Here's me starting to climb IMBA at Bootleg:

And both shots were actually taken on Photo Friday!

Did you ride the big boy Bootleg trails or stick to the (still fun) XC trails?

Man, did I want to. I was planning on getting up Monday morning and riding them before leaving town but Interbike had the mountain mostly consumed. I think it would've been a pain in the ass so I slept in (I was beat after sitting out in the sun the entire day working the Ironman race). Going back for the UTI Long Course Champioships in November and then again in December for the LV Rock N Roll Marathon so one of those days I'll get some of the DH action.

    Hey bigworm!!
That was just a little jaunt up bear wallow road up to the radio towers on Mt Biggelow. Photo was taken just n. of the towers near one of my favorite caping spots!
I really just wanted to pedal... And get out of the heat!!
