Shortbus runs every Sunday except the 4th Sunday of every Month, which is deemed "Silent Sunday" and the road to the top is closed.

Today is 15 days post op ACL reconstruction using Hamstring for graft. I can put full weight on it, walk with gangster lean, bend 90, and straighten past 0. I'm shooting for stationary bike this week. I hope to be back on light rides by next month. Three month back on flat dirt DC, etc... This summer the DH bike. Over all I'm coming along well, but it is a long recovery to get back to the Gnar.

Still cool to XC shuttle right? Looking to get out there in a weekend or two with either 1 or 2 others. If we say went up took national down to javalina then to 42nd and pedal back over to the pickup is fine? (Im sure we'd miss a couple ups due to the time differences of the trails)

Shuttles this Saturday!!! Starting at 9am to help you lazy butts get a little extra sleep. Brandon will be out there driving for us so make sure you heckle him good!!!

Shnipe...if everyone votes to do a long run, the van can come and pick you guys up at 42nd Pl. If not feel free to pedal back to the boyscout camp as almost every run goes by there...with the exception of holbert. Make sure you get the driver's number to coordinate.

    Shred season is here!!!

We're meeting at the walgreens on thomas and power at 745 leaving for top at 8am. Come on out and get some Hawes mini gnar and maybe some NRA after...yeah buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuddddddddddddddy!

Take central south, it will turn to the west. Look to your right (north) and you will see the parking lot. Hope to see you there.

Question, am I going to die on a bike with 4 inches of travel? Ive only ridden natty on SOMO before and i do realize these trails are way more gnarly. I dont have any armor either.

Cannot guarantee whether you'll die or not...thats up to you. I've seen lots of riders rip on a hardtail. If you feel comfortable on Natty you should be fine on Geronimo...Holbert, 24th, and Kiwanas might not be as much fun. Armor...Highly recommended!!! It's not if...it's when. I get to use mine weekly.

Holberto is fun on a hardtail.
You just probably won't be able to walk the next day.

Make sure you do the huck near the beginning of lower Holbert.

There's some spare sets of knee pads in the van. I'd highly recommend investing in a pair. The Kali knee pads or 661 kyle straights are great!!! You can find them both at cactus. The cross streets of the gulch are central 2 miles south of baseline across street from the second set of horse stables...see ya soon!

... and if we just ... SoMo road closed this Saturday!

There will not be South Mountain Saturday Shuttles this week. We will be shuttling out at Hawes instead. We will be meeting at 8:00 behind the Wal-Greens 3624 N. Power
Mesa, AZ 85215. Van will pass meeting spot about every hour and a half.

This is a beginner friendly shuttle day and a medium bike recommended. DH sled not required, but feasible.

This weekend is packed or me, so as much as I would like to, I will be unable to make it.

Anyone know of anything going on next weekend, (March 4-6th)?

Remember...no somo shuttles today due to copious amounts of hikers that closed the road for us. Come out to Hawes for your shuttle shred fix instead. Meeting at 8am at walgreens on Power and Thomas and every hour and a half after...shred on!

Help send Jacki Harmony to conquer the World Cup Fundraiser and Shuttle Spectacular!!! March 19th, 2011

Come and Help Send one of our own to the World Cups this summer...the one, the only, the vixen...Jacki Harmony!!!

She has insane potential to take the world cup title this year and we want her to be there to do it. She is in need of funds to help with airfare, travel expenses, hotels, rent a cars, etc. This is where you come in!!!
    ...
We will be sponsoring a day of shuttles if you purchase a T-shirt/Pint Glass combo with a limited edition graphic of Jacki jumping the world!!! (to be released) for $25. With this package you get all day shuttles, pancake breakfast cooked by the one and only Mrs. Harmony, a BBQ lunch and some world cup cookies made by the Harmony's! We will also be raffling off a bunch of stuff to include sponsors swag, tires, Gnar Gnar Hats, shirts and stickers and anything else we can get our hands on. And at 2:30 we will be having a fundraiser auction to add to the fun:

Thats right...Auction Time Jacki will be auctioning off her Cove Shocker that she won the Neveda Champs on to the highest bidder! Gnar Gnar Tours will also be auctioning off a Season Pass with the proceeds going to Jacki! There is also a possibility of some other sponsors coming through and adding to the auction as well (cough cough...sponsors) If there is anything you'd like to donate to the raffle or the auction we will accept all donations as well.

We will be starting the Breakfast at 8am at the Scorpion Gulch with shuttles kicking off a little later, BBQ starts at 1pm and raffle and Auction to start at 2:30pm and then more shuttle action till the sun goes down. (Can't ride, come out and hang. Can't make it, stayed tuned to gnargnartours.com for a chance to purchase the shirt and pint glass package and a chance to donate)

Come get some and help a fantastic shredder get to the World Cups this year!!! Now is the time to make a difference Gnar Junkies!!!

Ha. Well I support it, 100% Thanks to Zipper for driving for us. AWESOME conditions to ride in, prob. not as awesome sitting in the van all day. I slept in but got to enjoy 2 runs in what is prob the last of that kind of weather at SOMO until Nov. Just a light drizzle and nice, tacky trails.

Bummed I missed all the excellent PHX DH weather his winter! The second hand stoke definitely has helped this knee rehab go by faster.

Ron, Are you going to be able to join the group next weekend up to Bootleg? This will most likely be the last weather permitting trip there till November.

I saw it sitting there on the dash too and thought I'm totally going to forget that again. It can just live in the van until I grab it.

Andy - Not this trip Looking forward to a trip up to the trees soon, though that might be a while with that storm.

There will be shuttles after road opens...with otter pops to celebrate!!!

Picking up at Cactus at 930am, Boy Scout at 945am, Gulch at 10am. Shredding until you all are gnarred out or dehydrated...what ever comes first!!! A/C and otter pops in the van to prevent both.

As to the gnar van being "Green"...we are green in the sense that we limit the amount of traffic and number of vehicles driving up the road and using limited natural resources yes...

what goes on outside of the van on the trail is your own business...please keep "it" outside the van

Now back to your regularly scheduled Gnar Day!!!

Finally got a vuvuzela blast from the van when I was on the roadie today. Perfect timing too. I was starting to slack a bit and that left me smiling for the rest of the descent.
Great day out there! Got a cool view of a line of riders coming down the ridge of upper Holbert from the road. That section of trail has tons of flow.

Hey are you guys going to run the shuttle at SoMo next weekend or just up at Sunrise? I'd prefer to go to Sunrise, but I have a bunch of family coming to town again and am trying to make plans.

I must hijack this thread for a bit... does Sunrise have any easier trails for beginner to intermediate riders? I looked at their web site and it doesn't really have any details. Ideally flowy trails would be great as I would like to take my wife to experience the fun (someday). Now back to the Gnar

They have fire roads that go the whole way down and some easier single track as well. Make sure she can do a switch back and she should be fine.

Thanks for the shuttle service! I had done a couple runs this spring but yesterday was my first time down Holbert, WHOA! There is definitely nothing easy about DH shuttling. One bruised shoulder, one sore ankle, my quads are now aching and a cracked BB all in one ride! Time for a real DH rig for me.

It was actually the 42nd Annual YMCA Half Marathon today (Saturday). It wasn't a silent day. They reopened the roads at 10:30a when the last runners were coming through.

Hey Bob... I left my gray vest on the shuttle today. Toss it aside and I'll pick it up next week.

    Thanks!

Just wanted to say, I had an excellent day on the mountain today. Left the Go Pro at home on purpose but it would have been cool to have it since I had a number of personal first accomplishments. Feels like I may be coming to terms with the gravity thing a bit more and the Flatline Pro makes it all much more doable.

Having shuttle service to the top of the hill doesn't hurt either.

    That is all.

Titus...I'll hold on to it. Let me know next time you're out. Also..anyone who has left a jacket, hat or anything else let me know. My garage is starting to look like a goodwill with all the forgotten items.

DesertCrawler...Sick! Glad you are enjoying gravity to it's fullest!

Had a great day today! Thanks for all that came out and shredded the gnar like it should be shredded!

Next week...December 10th, we will be hosting a Geronimo maintenance day starting at 11am with Ranger Brian. All who participate will receive a sweet limited edition "I heart SOMO" T-shirt to show that you really do love the mountain by putting your shovel where your mouth is. You'll also get free shuttle runs for the morning!!! Probably some beverages too Come give back to the mountain that gives so much stoke to you!

I think I left a Cove STD or G-Spot or something similar... let me know if you find it!

Thanks again to Tyler (for driving) and Gnar Gnar for the shuttles yesterday! We had a packed van and the weather was perfect!

WE'll be out again on Saturday! Starting at 7am till 11am...

After that we'll be working with Ranger Brian and GRO-AZ to do some much needed trail work on Geronimo. All who help will receive a sweet limited edition "I Love Somo" shirt and free shuttles for the day. So come ride and then go dig. We'll have a security guard/driver watch your bikes while you work on the trail. Cold drinks to follow! Bring tools... shovels, rakes, gloves, etc.

Give some love back to the mountain that gives us so much stoke and scars
