Who Sells Solid Black 1/4 Length Socks with No Label?

I think this might be my OCD kicking in but I'm having a hard time finding ankles socks that are solid black that don't make me look like a walking/biking advertisement (i.e., no label)

Of course, they can't be cotton and I would prefer merino wool but polyester is okay too.

Does anyone have any in mind?

Below is a picture of the best I could come up with but I'm not sure about the quality.

G.H. Bass & Co Explorer Merino Wool Blend Quarter Socks
    18% Merino Wool, 5% Lycra, 31% Polyester, 46% Acrylic
    $14.99 - 3-pair

Thanks. Just checked. Nothing at REI. Though they do have a pair in charcoal, not black. Again, OCD

Just searched Walmart. Hanes, synthetic blend.

No luck. Some came up with blend but they had cotton in them.

Also searched the Hanes brand on the web but couldn't find anything.

Something like 41% or less cotton, IIRC? I've been using them for a couple years. I don't like cotton but these don't have much of any of the characteristics of typical cotton. They're somewhat similar to my favorite riding socks, the DeFeet Aireator, they're just a bit thicker. I use them for cooler weather riding. Might check them out next time you're by a WallyWorld. They're cheap.

Not cheap but very nice socks Point 6. You can find them occasionally at backcountry or sierratrading post for cheaper. I was able to pick up a few sets at the factory when I visited Steamboat Springs for semi cheap and they are well worth the money. Owner was owner/founder of Smartwool prior to selling to Timberland.

@oms – It might come down to a blend. Thanks.

@Johnnyvv – Swiftwick looks great but nothing in XL unfortunately. I’ve checked everywhere. Treads Bicycle Outfitters says to call for availability which I’ll do today. I’ll report back if I have any luck. Thanks.

@muddernutter – I’m actually looking for ankle socks. Those are advertised as no-show. Thanks for the link, though.

@noapathy – the link takes me to ritdye.com’s main page. I entered “black socks” in the search bar but it didn’t yield any results.

So, it seems like the search continues. Thank you everyone for looking into this for me. Signed, Mr. OCD

Thanks. No XL though. ugh. Large is from size 6 to size 12.5. I wear size 13.

The listings says: Hits right above/at the ankle. Squeezing into a pair of these if it is only right at the ankle means it is likely there will be a gap there, which will let dirt inside the sock.

I appreciate you helping out. Hopefully I'll find what I'm looking for. I might even take socks that run higher on the calf and have them altered by a seamstress

Haha, I thought I had it that time! This is starting to bother me personally.

What about black on the visible parts only?

@westcoasthucker - Thanks! I didn't catch this. Actually dyeing the socks occurred to me believe it or not

@muddernutter - "This is starting to bother me personally". This cracked me up!

Thanks for the links. This is what I found:

Swiftwick ($17.99) - Pretty nice (just small part of label might show). They even have size XL. It's is a bit pricey but I might go for it.

Merrell Men's Zoned Quarter (16.00) - This works but no size XL. Price is better.

LifeSocks AirbornePlus Quarter ($31.95) - Looks great, has my size, but unfortunately over my budget.

I just found myself at Zappos and searched for men's black socks (over 600 pair listed!). I found 3 that might fit the bill. There might be more. These are all synthetic - not cotton or wool. I might go with one of these, in addition to the Swiftwick you pointed out.

Wrightsock Cool Mesh Quarter ($12.00) - I don't know the brand well.
    https://www.zappos.com/p/wrightsock-...876820/color/3

Under Armour Heat Gear Tech ($14.99) - up to 12.5 - a bit small, not size 13
    https://www.zappos.com/p/under-armou...025587/color/3

Features High Performance ($35.97 3-pack) - Never heard of the brand, though.

I buy socks based on quality and fit first, followed by cost. Color is only a small consideration (within reason, of course). But since obviously color rates higher for you I figured why compromise on the other 2?

Buy priest socks. Priest socks are blacker. Other socks are actually very, very, very, very, very, very VERY dark blue.

    @muddernutter - good call

There are labels on most things I wear or own, it seems. If companies want to pay me to advertise for them that would be great. I can deal with logos on other things for now but having them on my socks is a bit much.

    Wrightsock Cool Mesh II

    Hey guys, here's an update:

I just ordered a pair of Wrightsock Cool Mesh II socks. $12 at Amazon (2- day shipping w/Prime). They get lots of great reviews on Amazon and REI sells them. I'll come back and report on the quality/fit.

No merino wool but my rides are at most 2-3 hours each so these should work fine (in theory).

Thank you everyone for your input and contributions to my post/thread.

Sorry that mountain peaks on the back of the sock were too much. They seem understated and non-billboardish to me. Having a logo like that is a small price to pay for a company who will replace your socks for free when they wear out.

    P.S. Don't let OCD win.

Wow, I already liked these for fit and quality alone - never realized they had free replacement warranty. That's pretty crazy. I might have to get another pair with an extra big logo. Sounds like a company I want to advertise for so they can keep making great stuff.

I have an anonymous source that is very close to the OP and this source just sent me some intel on what's "really" going on under concealment of the OP's riding shoes and his supposedly "unlabeled" sock collection.

I didn't realize that WE should be paying any price, since WE are the ones trying to help you. Why are we trying to help you again?

Yeah, I'm thinking about picking up some now. After reading more about the company, it seems like one I'd actually want to support. Good thing I don't have OCD, and I like mountains.

    Good job!

    @noapathy
    @Oh my sack!

Funny stuff guys. That made me laugh. Btw, what's on my desktop is my business lol

That backsack is nasty. I can believe he's wearing it in public and just going about his everyday business.

@s0ckeyeus - The Darn Tough socks do look great. Just ordered a pair. It will be my first pair of DT's

I'm making progress with my OCD. Thanks for your help, and the link!

Do you think this is a thread that MTBR will link to in their weekly news mail?

    I'm thinking.... not.

Help me buy black socks, feck me. What's next, where can I buy a sandwich? What time is it?

If it doesn't make the facebook feed, it DOES qualify for the MTBR "Here's your Socks" Program, at least. I wonder if the OP would wear them?

I got some great help from some great people AND they made me crack up Not so much from animals, unfortunately.

By the way, for those that may not know, "feck" is actually a word and not a mispell!

"Feck is a popular minced oath in Ireland, occupying ground between the ultra-mild expletive flip and the often taboo (but also popular) f**k. It's strongly associated with Irish speech, and serves a broad range of linguistic purposes...".

That's two things we've learned from Father Ted.

Father Ted. A sitcom right? (had to do a Google search - I'm from the US). I'll check it out later today. Thanks.

I think we need to be more specific than that. Like "where can I buy a vegan sandwich on a Sunday afternoon in Bristol?" Now that would be truly good info to have.

Also, OP - good choice on the DT socks. You'll like 'em a lot!
    :nono:

Thanks! I'm looking forward to getting them in the mail. They'll probably be the best pair I own as I only have polyester ones that are falling apart - plus, I like what I heard from s0ckeyeus about the warranty

These are socks for mountain biking, not the priesthood. Nothing is dull about mountain biking.

With that said, and my new socks on the way...
