New question here. What shoes do you wear with flats? Is mtb specific worth getting?

Is there any point getting something like the 661 assault / dually, or does everyone just wear skate / joggers

    Opinions please

    Thanks

I'm a really big fan of Vans. Specifically, the "off the wall" sole found on the Old Skools, and some of the Rowley shoes. They are super gummy, and offer little padding. I used them for many years doing trials and still swear by them. I've tried Airwalks, other Vans, Adidas....nothing compares in stick-to-the-pedal-no-matter-what-ness.

Picture of them in a snazzy curved manual dealie:

The only real advantage (that I can think of) of DH specific shoes is the toe armor that you get... Besides that I'd recomend skating shoes because they are flat so you have total gripness between ur pedals and ur shoes...

    ankles...

some of us have moved to sticky soled hikers (Merrill at REI has them cheap) and AXO makes a nice shoe which I can no longer find. My duallies died, can't find them either. *&^[email protected]#!!! Jim (tired of slamming ankle bones into cranks on landings)

My set of Vans BMX shoes didn't last very long. The rubber sole came apart in big chunks from the stiff plate in the sole.

AXO Dually are the shoes I use and really like them (Now called 661 Dually). Best part is the hard ankle bone cover as I smack my ankle into the cranks. They have lasted very well, and I'll probably buy another pair this year. I think I've had my current pair 2 years.

During the winter when it is really wet and cold, I used some mid-height leather hiking boots.

    I wear Vans.

I just picked up two new pairs (Rowley, on sale too!) because as Craig mentioned they don't last too long. My last pair had two grooves worn through the soles from the pegs in my pedals.

Too bad Vans doesn't make a mid or hi-top version of that shoe. I'd be sold.

I had big chunks of rubber coming off mine, not long after I bought them.

They were a SPD compatible BMX shoe. I wasn't happy with them.

The AXO/661 Dually is a much better shoe.

I also like the 661 Dually, great protection and they stick to my pedals well. They are pretty tough too. I find that the soles on skate shoes wear out really fast, maybe its just me....

If you want to run SPD clips, $50 for AXO Descend (39, 40, 41, 46, 47).

Thanks to all, I have a pair of old globes here I may throw at the bike. Shall check out the dually, they don't sound too bad.

    Pity I'm a size 46, $27 looks very inviting!
