    V-brake shoes/pads compatibility

    Hi:

Easy question: Are V-brake shoes and pads standardized to be compatible across brands?

I have Avid SD 3 brakes. I want to replace the factory pads with shoes and ceramic pads. Can I just buy any old V-brake shoes like Shimanos?

    Thanks!

    I believe so

If I'm not mistaken, the older models, like the mid 80's to early 90's weren't standardized but i could be wrong on that one, however, I wouldn't go after replacing the pads separately, but instead, replace the whole shoe/pad combo as one with ceramic, etc.... Take your bike to your LBS and ask them whether its possible, I think thats your best bet...
