Specialized MTB helmets- which is your favourite?

Looking for a new helmet. I've had a few from Specialized over the years, nothing particularly noteworthy about past models, but I have had a Tactic since last year that has been pretty good. Good occipital protection, fairly light, and good venting are important to me and the Tactic is pretty good on all counts.

I picked the Tactic over the offerings from Fox (Flux I think) and Giro (Xen) as the Tactic was cheaper and seemed to offer as good protection and durability.

    Any recommendations?

S-Works: Light, great venting, comfortable......not cheap though but it is your head so take good care of it.

It's cheaper this year! It's down to $160 because of the new S-Works Prevail.

I have an '07 Deviant that I like a lot. I'm thinking about getting a new one with the new padding in the rear, might be too hot though.

What about the new "Vice" helmet. I'm due for a new one, but my LBS doesn't have them in yet.

I tried "Vice" helmet on the other day and I am sold. Fits much than my current Propero and I can actually feel that the back of my head is covered. Love the fact that visor is screwed on.

I tried on so many helmets from various shops and found only one that fit well... the Specialized Decibel helmet. Carbon reinforced, huge vents, cool, with minimal padding, fit my head perfectly.

I found that recommendations didn't mean much (for me anyway) as the most important factor is a good, comfortable fit. But if you want one, the Decibel is on sale for $140 on the Spesh web site. My advice is to try on as many as you can...

I love my Deviant Carbon full face, but use the Giro Xen for my regular riding. It seemed to suit my head shape better than the Specialized lids I tried.

I use a $40 helmet. I figure that's what my head is worth.

But seriously, I don't know what the difference is between the $40 helmets and the $140 helmets and the $240 helmets.

They must all conform to the same standard crash regulations. The differences are typically weight, ventilation, ease of fit/adjustment and most importantly style

I have 2 S-Works 2D's and love them. They are light, and protect your dome.

Yeah I have a $40 bell helmet, it works great, my head hurt just as much in the specialized helmet my dad has when i fell, as when i fall in the Bell helmet. If im gonna buy a $140 helmet, it better come with a $100 bill inside.

People with lower end helmets are severely discounting how much better high end helmets ventilate, how much lighter they are and how much better they look.

Not that there's anything wrong with lower end helmets.

Fox Flux. Why limit to just Specialized line up?

    VICE

Coming from the owner of many Xens and Flux's...the VICE is killer
    Love it

Ventelation is better, fit is better and I think looks better than the above mentioned

    Decibel

Got it on a year end clearance a couple of years ago and it's the most comfortable helmet I've ever had. Too bad they don't make it any more!!

+1 on the Vice - Like it a lot! - Works well with my sunglasses - Crashed and broke my face in a Flux...I didn't go back...nothing to do with the helmet but I'm superstitious and I got the Vice instead...good choice
Ride Hard - Ride Safe - Have Fun

    Go s#!t...I'm not a fish
