Soft body armor: Best without spending a ton?

So seems like the fashion world (POC, etc..) has gotten into this arena and there is also a lot of cheap stuff at the low end. What's a good solid set of soft knee, elbow, hip pad shorts for a good price (not cheap, not uber expensive) to consider? Also like to stay away from day glow colors. Just want something that is made well, fits well, and offers up the most possible protection without going hard pads or making me look like the kid in the Christmas Story.

Me: Older aggressive rider with lots of injuries old/new I'm dealing with and trying to prevent new ones while still riding hard. Thanks!

Demon is excellent. Comfortable and not too expensive.

I have the 661 ensemble. Rage soft knee/shin pad combo, fairly light and comfy, so I wear them every ride and they offer good protection (well tested). I have the compression shorts with the D30, I find them really comfy and wear them every ride also. I also have the long sleeve compression top with the spine, shoulder and elbow protection (for DH), it's decent but the spine protection is a bit short. While I think there is probably better protection out there, the 661 is decent protection for the price.

I'm really impressed by the Dakine Slayers (knee and elbow). Took a hard fall on a rock yesterday on my knee and barely felt it. Comfortable and flexible for more XC oriented rides too.
