    Shoes for platform/toe clips?

My wife recently bought be a sweet pair of shoes since I've been using the same pair of beat tennis shoes for over a year. I ride with toe clips/cages and since I feel most comfortable with them I'm unlikely to change. The shoes she got me are for clipless. I haven't ridden them yet, and she's happy to return them (as bad as I'd feel about that), but I figured I'd check and see - there any benefit to using this type of shoe without the clipless setup? Is there a good shoe in the $100 price range for platform/toe clips? I was hoping for low cut, light weight shoes that could double as hiking/trail running shoes. I'm honestly not interested in switching to clipless at this time.

    Thanks in advance!

I have flats on my MTB but still use toe clips on my CX bike. I like to use a firm trail running shoe and prefer ones that do not have shoe laces such as made by Salomon or Vasque.
