    Shin guards or longer socks?

My calves have more than a few scratches in various stages of healing. All of them from my pedals' pins. Great for grip, but ouch!

I'm ready to do something about this, but from what I can tell there isn't much our there that isn't much better than a long pair of socks. The back of the leg is usually covered with a thin stretch material while all the padding and protection is on the front. My shins somehow have not had any pedal to shin contact.

I'll try longer socks, but any recommendations on shin pads that offer decent protection for the back of the leg?

I find high black socks are great. You can't see the damage and the blood doesn't show so much against the black.
    Do the math.

Get 2 pairs of velcro soccer shin guards and wear them on both sides.

Socks are better than nothing or just the lycra backing of most shin pads though.

Other things to consider are cutting your pins down a little bit or changing them out to a different design. I've found the threaded pins to kinda suck if they are too long.
Everyone is entitled to my opinion.
