Saw this in another forum regarding helmets..

I was browsing yahoo answers, and I saw this response to a 'How to know which helmet to buy' post:

"put it on your head, see if it fits, then bang your head to the wall to see if it hurts!!
if it hurts dont buy it if it doesnt try a bigger and harder wall !!!!

Talking about helmets...... my P.O.S cheap shwinn helmet has a small crack in the back. However, I spent all the money I had on the bike, so I am forced to continue using it .

Oh yeah, I did almost the same.. the seat belt of my car was broke, but I decided to invest on a nice stereo. Now, I have to drive with my current seat belt.....

I am just kidding... hope you are too.

I have Trek helmet (black) wich lacks the thingie that holds to the back of the head (la cosa esa que ajusta el casco a la nuca, pues!) maybe you can adapt your current one or find the thingie in some shop, if you want it its yours.

Heh, unfortunately, im not kidding. I just noticed this yesterday. It was not as if I didnt care and just spent the money on the bike.
Arivas thanks a lot of the offer. I think I will accept (if you dont mind) . I'll buy a helmet ASAP.

EDIT: Just one doubt. I know ANY crack is bad in a helmet. However, I dont know if this one is too serious. Its just a small crack on one of the sides of the rearmost vents. Its on the "corner" of the helmet, not on the center of anything. I WILL buy a new one soon, just asking what do you guys think about it.

Well... You know hat saying that goes: "Barely Cracked could lead to Slightly Dead"

Don't take chances. Not with the riding you do. You just don't fool around on the bike, you're really serious about it. YOU GO BIG

Remember that jump you missed at Desierto where you fell on your back? Now imagine you rotate just a few degrees more while on the air... yeah, back head right down smacked on the ground like only seen on WWF.

Again, don't take chances. I have a friend who can't walk or feed himself alone because an apparently innocent move. He dove into a pool that was too shallow and crushed his cervicals (two of them pretty bad) when hitting bottom.

What were the chances for that to happen? Very little, if you ask me. MTB is far more dangerous, so no caution is little.

I also have a Vigor helmet that you can have if you want it. You know it... it's my Atomic Ant helmet. Everything is cool except that it doesn't have a visor. Maybe you can adapt the visor from Arivas' Trek.

Nothing to thank for... I have received a lot from fellow riders. If I don't give some back, karma will crap on me!

BTW... I still have your Swampthing. The tyre, I mean. I haven't used it, but I thank you for giving me the chance to find out that Maxxis 2.35's fit on my bike.

since were on the helmet discussion...

I had a crash about a month or so ago, went otb and my helmet saved me from a really bad hit to the head. It didnt crack but its dented; I know I should just buy a new one, but I havent... si si, soy un huevon. (besides that, i havent seen one I like at my usual lbs) how unsafe would this be, being it didnt really crack?

mmm... pic doesnt really show where its dented sorry

I'm no expert on these kind of materials... I guess Arivas has much better understanding of them that I will ever have.

But being the disclaimer made, I think the helmet is "hurt" and for sure compressed making the material harder in that spot... that's less protection against impact next time you crash or a source for a crack.

As I mentioned to 545, if you ride fast, don't take chances... get a new helmet. Best kept secret amongst helmets is that all of them comply with the CPSC... from the cheapo Vigors, to the expensive Xen.

Get a cheapo one while you get the one you like. Intense Care visits are far more expensive than helmets... God forbids you getting hurt, but don't take chances.

As we say in spanish... "Ayudate, que yo te ayudare".

theres a tiny difference. u see sexy and sex are two different things... while I too find bike pics sexy I would not have sex with them.
