Recommendations for knee/shin pads, NOT slip on
I use slip on Dianese knee pads and elbow pads over Shadow shin pads (designed for BMX) which are also slip on. I never ride without the pads on.

90% of my riding is skate parks and dirt jumps and I don't think these pads quite cut it. I suck and bang my knees on the top tube and shins on pedals quite a bit. I hate that I have to take my shoes off.

I'm thinking I need hard pads that are NOT slip on. They should also protect around the knee, not just the front.

Any recommendations? Having a hard time finding anything bike specific, wondering if street hockey gear might work...

These are probably the closest thing to what you are looking for.

Look for sets of Kali Protectives. I have a set thatís for heavy duty use and uses Velcro.

Have these and love them, but I think OP is looking for something more like the fox pads linked to by ananth. Ions pedal really well and saved my knees on more than one occasion. The sas tech foam works. Waiting to see how stiff they are in the winter, though.

Let us know what you go with fitek, and how you like them. Might need something similar for learning to hit bigger jumps on flat pedals.
