Protection of a different kind: 2-way satellite comms for back country emergencies

I'll admit that I often forget to carry my InReach with me but on this day I had it with me an tracking. A lightning strike started a forest fire near to me and I was able to use it to call emergency services to alert them to the new fire. It was the first time in 5+ years that I had ever used the SOS function. I had no idea what to expect and I happened to record the entire thing..

Makes me feel better about keeping my subscription active year round =)

I haven't had a need to call in the pro's since getting my InReach (prior to that I did have to use amateur radio to engage SAR once) and hope I never do, but your post highlights how handy these things can be, and it doesn't always involve an injury for the device owner.
