    Padded or unpadded

I've just recently started riding a leather saddle. Rivet Cycle Works Pearl. The reason was that on the TD this year I ended up with a terrible heat rash that made it impossible to sit on a saddle. Heck sitting on a plane heading home was extremely uncomfortable.
In the postmortem of my ride I believe that one of the factors that lead to the issues that I had was heat, moisture and salt concentration in my padded shorts/bibs.
So I now ride without padding on a leather saddle.
    Anyone else do that?

Sounds like you should just get some butt paste for heavy in the saddle days

I don't wear diapers on any ride. Plastic or leather saddle. I just wear my regular synthetic boxer briefs.

On my plastic trail bike saddle I can do ~7hrs/day for 4 or 5 days before I get any irritation.

On my leather saddles [Brooks and Selle Anatomica] I'm good for 12hrs+/day [longest day has been 18hrs] for pretty much forever. As the days get longer duration and more in a row I find butt hygiene is pretty critical to avoiding any problems.

I don't use any lotions or potions on my butt while riding either.
    Safe riding,

Professional riders who spend way more time in the saddle than any of us always use quality bibs with a padded chamois. A good fitting hard saddle with quality bibs is the best combo IME, and always wash them asap after a ride.
