Olympic Slalom Helmets with Chinbars maybe a new direction for MTB Helmets

Watching the Olympics I noticed that many of the Slalmon and downhill skiers had lightweight mounted chin-bars either made of Wire or plastic.

Seems like this type of chin bar would benefit riders with Trail/XC helmets and increased level of projection without going on to an enduro or DH Helmt. It could be a nice solution for Trail helmets, providing additional protection without going to either a removable chin bar or a full face helmet. Even if it is a breakaway like POC has, it most like save some scraps and perhaps a tooth or two.

Chin bar is to prevent slalom gates from slapping skier in the face. Might work for thin saplings and vertical branches riding the mtb.
    Do the math.

Looks like it would be more prone to snag rocks, roots, stumps, etc... if you went face first over the bars.

At first I thought "good point", but then I'm thinking.... If you go face first over the bars and you're going to faceplanton a rock, root or stump, I'll take my chances on it snagging vs a fractured face and a totally broken nose. Everything in crash protection is playing odds. I'd say odds of catching it on something are low.

That said, I'm not sure if I could wear one for what I do. I've wrecked a lot over the bars, and haven't ever hit my face. The head naturally tucks down as you go over most of the time. At least that's my experience.
