Old POC Pads Have Gone Hard

I have a older (4 years or so) set of POC VPD pads; elbow and knee. When I pulled them out last week I found that the padding had gone hard and it did not soften noticeably under body heat as it has in past seasons.

    Anybody else have this happen?
Is this a warranty item or is this just the normal lifespan of the product?

As a curiosity, did you approach POC with your issue? Feedback?

Its past their warranty period so I figured it was not worth it.
