    New leg armor trend?

I've noticed a few pro's have been wearing some of the cheaper leg armor (ones w/o knee retention) and using in combination with a knee wrap.

Is this for comfort or cost savings(I doubt cost means much to pros)?

But even a lousy downhill run is better than a day in the office!

i think it's for comfort... i mean who want's an annoying strap digging into the back of your leg?

it just looks like it is more secure and insolating...and if the pads get destroyed. it's only like $20 bucks for new ones.

well yeah I mean they are pro's. Go and buy them the pro's have them. So they have to be far better than anything else on the market. lol

No its not a trend nor would I go near those.

Spoken like someone who's never had a strap tear the hell out of the back of his knee -

Personally, I've been looking at running that setup too - but that's only because I am a follower and cannot ride.

Or!!! those cheap-E 661 pads without straps (a rubber type hold...) and then put some of the external knee warmers that Cedric, peat, and strait wear...

I've sported that style for a long time. I'm really tired of knee pads that slide when I pedal/crash so I made my own ghetto creation that ended up working better than anything else. Fox 911 knee/shin pads with the knee part cut off and (I forgot what brand/model) knee pads worked pretty sweet, they were not lookers though. What I'm gonna be trying out this weekend should be sweet. Old style white 661 knee shin guards with the knee straps cut off, and the 661 padlock knee over the knee plate. I have a feeling it will be sweet.

Not really *new* a few pros I know of have been doing it for years, Lopes comes to mind first.

    Reasons..
    lighter
    comfortable as he11
    easy of movement
    breathe easier/not as hot
don't have to remove shoes to put on/ take off
    cheap
    simple
    works!

this is just a few of the reasons I could think of. I've been on the RG Pro Set model, discontinued now, for over a year now and I don't ever want to wear anything else.

    Leave it to Lopes...

...to start a fashion trend. He was also one of the first pros to don a skate lid racing DS/Mtx and (other than Bubba) wear pink gear.

Got poison oak on my old pads so I'm changing out.
