    neck braces (again!)
    Hi all,

Was thinking about getting a neck brace for my DH adventures and I know there's a lot of controversy regarding them whether it actually works or not. The latest threads I could find were a little on the older side and I was just wondering if there's been any new info/evidence that the braces actually do work or not (no just anecdotal evidence). My style of riding is the steep and technical/gnarly stuff....I'm not a big jumper. Price isn't a consideration for me....I just want to know if it actually works or not. I'm wearing a 661 Full face helm and a Fox Titan shortsleeve chest protector. Thanks all!

I have been looking at the Omega brace, it is designed to put more pressure on stronger sections of your body than the collar bone: omegabrace.com

When I buy one this spring, this is the one I'll buy after the research I've done.

Its impossible to test because a test to prove they would break a neck would require a control group not wearing a brace to be subjected to a neck breaking accident. The best they can do is test with their crazy technology driven dummies/robots, they cannot say it will stop the neck breaking but they can show the reduction in force and movement the brace offers. With that we know about accidents we can say that it MAY prevent serious injury. But because crashes are so different its hard to mimic.
We also need to consider the chances of a serious crash, now in my opinion even if these crashes are rare, and god forbid I or anyone was to have one, I would want to be wearing a brace that will improve my chances of walking away. I have heard stories of medical doctors telling patients who broke their back or neck that without braces they would be dead but again its not really evidence because there is no study conducted where they could measure that for certain.

Do i wear one yes, because any reduction in preventing a serious injury for a few hundred dollars is a good investment.
