Lower Leg Protection - Scratches and Scrapes

Took my new mountain bike out for the first time this past weekend and it was a blast; except for the scratches and gashes on my lower legs, from the knees down to my shins.

The local course has a bunch of bushes and low lying trees that are pretty intrusive.

What would protect me best? Mind you, I'm not looking for protection from collisions, crashes or impacts - I'm a beginner and will be sticking to the novice runs for a while.

    Thanks

    Soccer shin guards?

I have cuts and nicks on both my shins. Part of mountain biking I guess.

Sounds like you are looking for trail leg gaiters.

Better to be smart, than fashionable. Seen a rider just use duct tape on their shins, the trails were that bad with sharp vegetation.

Anything's better than nothing. Heck, wear long socks, and stuff some junk mail envelop in front under it if you want extra protection. Heck, stuff it with some leaves freshly plucked from the vegetation (beware leaves of three though), if you're lacking that and are already on the trails.
