    Help with new helmet

I'm in the market for a new helmet for XC, recreational/sport racer, light with lots of vents, naturally a low price would be ideal, but the real concern in fit. I will try before buying but wanted to narrow my search first as I may need to order in through a LBS.

my current helmet (1995/6 Bell Image XT) is a large, my head circumference is 58.5cm/23" however it is long front to back and not overly wide. I can usually fit a large helmet front to back but have extra room on the sides which isnt overly safe and looks like hell. even with my current helmet my forehead starts to ache after an hour or so. I tried on a specialized helmet years ago while shopping for my current lid and found them too narrow. Ive had the same problem with hard hats and motorcycle helmets too.

Can anyone suggest brands or models that would fit a longer but slightly narrow 23" head.

    Cheers.

Bell and Specialized are generally the best fit for oval heads. You have to try them on. Each model can fit a bit differently.

My head is a little bigger than yours, I think. I had no luck at general sports stores. At a bike shop we found a few possibilities and the guy at the shop managed to adjust a Bell so that I could wear it with comfort.

A friend and I both had a hell of a time shopping for a new helmet. We both had cheapie K-Mart types before, but now wanted those new ones that are adjustable fit.

We must have spent 4 days in 6 different shops, trying out over 50 helmets before I found one that fitted me (and coincidentally him), perfectly. It was a Giro Atlas II. We had wanted a "higher end" helmet, but after using this for 2 months - absolutely no regrets. It keeps my head cool in 36 degrees celcius, looks low profile and feels light (eventough it is not very light).
