    Helmet's useful life?

    Hey guys,

I have a Bell helmet that i've had for a while.. I hung it over my handlebar today after a ride and i came back later and the plastic shell had seperated from the foam part. Is it time for a new one?

I have heard that once you crash on a helmet even if it is not destroyed you should replace it because it may lose some effectiveness. I mean your not even supposed to put stickers on or paint right?

I saw the other thread about helmet use and effectiveness in the passion forum, without getting to a heated debate what do you all recomend?

3-5 years depending on the time you've spent outside in it. UV rays degrade the foam. after any hard impact the helmet should probably be tossed, even if it looks okay.
