    helmet fix

    Hey all,

I know this is a fairly common issue, so somebody out there has to have a fix.

I got a Bell Influx skid lid, and the velcro (the hooky side) that holds the pads in keeps coming unglued from the inside at my brow. I've hot-glued that round velcro dot in once a month for the past 6 months, and I really would like to find a permanent fix, other than buying a new lid, which I may have to do. My lid is around 1.5 years old, and seems a bit early to replace.

Anybody figure out a permanent fix for this?

    Can you say Epoxie?

Hot glue stinks IMO for most applications.

    superglue

superglue will not fail you, just don't glue your fingers to the helmet

... about this helmet, they said that the lifespan was based on wear, pads getting funky from sweat, that kinda thing rather than breakdown from UV or exposure to air. It had nothing to do with age.

    Superglue

I tried epoxy with weak results, then went to superglue which worked much better & has kept those patches on for some time now. I picked up extra velcro patches at a local drug-store (or office supply) because I didn't trust the original ones after the epoxy.

Try shoe goo. Sounds perfect for this app. It will hold a coffee cup to a desk, it will hold that. (my students did that to me when I had some at school). The good thing is that it stays flexible unlike super glue.

    SHOE GOO ROCKS!!!

does it glue $2 coins to the lino in the office kitchenette? THAT is the question. If it doesn't, superglue still has its place :-)

No, I'm with you. I'm all about keeping my gear up to snuff.

I do replace mine every 2-3 years when it gets too beat up. I just think once a year is too often to replace a $100 lid, especially when it's fine apart from my sweat eating through the glue in the velcro that hold the pads in place.

It has not seen any impacts apart from a couple of low branch grazings that lightly rang my bell and hardly scratched the inshell molding on the top.

Apart from that, it's fine. Still mostly new.

Oh, and thanks for the input on the glue. It seems that ShoeGoo is the way to go. My only worry is the solvents eating away at the styrofoam.
