Good shoes for newbie to flats?

Ideally something that I could wear off the bike as well. I just started riding flats since I've been doing more park riding and since it's cold enough here that the flats allow me to wear warmer shoes too. Anyway, I just wondered what kind of shoes you all are using.

On a progress note, the flats are weird, really weird but I've managed to get over a 2' log (ungracefully I might add). I find it's reaonably easy to hop onto something that I'll be riding on but much tougher to hop over things. Is that normal?

... and if we just ...

It just takes time and practice but soon you will not even be thinking about keeping your feet on the pedals. five-ten makes some great shoes with sticky soles for riding (you can wear them on the street also). they used to make the intense shoes. the same thing but cheaper. got mine at sierra trading post.

    Cool-blue Rhythm Check out Dickies...

I found some shoes made by Dickies, I can't remember what the model name was, but they were canvas skate shoes with an awesome traction pattern. the outside bottom has traction angled backward, and the inside has traction angled forward. The tread was almost cleat like, but locked on my tioga flats really well. The pattern stopped your foot from sliding off the back of the pedal, and with the middle tread, from sliding off the front as well. The best part is, they are freakin tough, wear like a mexican saddle, and cost me 20 bucks brand new. I ended up buying 4 pairs for future use.
