Going to Sea Otter - Clothing Help

    Hey Ladies:

I am making my first trip to Sea Otter this year. I am going up with my club but not to race but ride the mountain bike tour and watch some of the racing and expo. I have heard so many stories about the crazy weather and what you should wear. So it is obvious that if it is cold then leggings, thermals, etc.. Any other useful clothing tips would be great. Type of rain jacket, etc..? I am from Socal and while it does get cold, I almost never ride in the rain.

    Should be a fun time.

    Cheers.

When working, half the time I wear shorts, the other half, I wear knee length rubber boots, Gore-Tex and a hat. When riding, a standard plastic rain cape will do just fine if the weather is bad, though if it is really bad, the ride will be pretty lame.

Sometimes times it looks like this:
    <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/9850634/" title="MTBR_04 by hukee, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm1.static.flickr.com/7/9850634_066d2b50fb_o.jpg" width="900" height="675" alt="MTBR_04" /></a>

    Sometimes, it doesn't.

I have raced in sleet/hail, stood at the startline in foot deep running streams, worked with photographers while standing in mud so deep people were losing shoes, chased tents across the expo in gales, and basked in gloriously sunny and warm weather, all at the same event.
I only attempt to change the world in the appropriate World-Changing venues and forums.

    Hey Sambolina
After 6 years of hitting sea otter I have honed a list of everything I need to bring. I'll find it and post it later. My rule of thumb for sea otter is to bring more clothes than I think i will need and stash a change of clothes in the car even if it looks nice out because it can get coooooold.

Are you racing? The early morning starts can be pretty cold. Last few years I have been dandy with a long sleeve wool jersey and a vest.

After last year's dust storm, it's probably worth bringing a buff or a bandana to cover your face just in case.

Or just pick one up from the Dirt Rag tent while your there.
Cats just don't feel safe on a moving bicycle, no matter how much duct tape you use.

Man, I forgot about that wind. That was pretty horrid. No rain though, which was unusual.

Thanks Ladies. Those tips are very useful. No Impy I am not racing. Just going up for the experience and will ride the tour on Saturday, the beginner tour that is. A bunch of us gals are going up. Should be a fun time.

    Impy... question

What handlebars are you running on your bike? They look really nice.

Yeah if you are in Sea Otter, PM me and we will meet up. Just got two rain jackets so I think I am good.
