    Gear me up for DH!!

    Hi all,

I'm just getting into MTB, coming from a dirt bike. I got top quality protective gear on the dirt bike and want to carry this practice over to the mountain bike.

    So far I have:

    • 2016 Santa Cruz Nomad CC
    • Fox Rampage Carbon Pro full face helmet
    • 100% goggles (from dirt biking)
    • Leatt GPX 5.5 neck brace (do I want to get the DBX as well?)
    • shorts
    • jersey
    • gloves
    • Leatt 3DF 6.0 knee guard

    Lacking:

    • Chest protector
    • Back protector
    • Shoulder protector
    • Elbow protector
    • Neck brace? Is the Leatt GPX 5.5 ok or should I get the DBX 5.5?
    • Padded shorts
    • Wrist guard?

(Some of the above can be gotten in one piece of gear.)

    Some gear I looked at:

    • Leatt 3DF Airfit Body Armor (soft, full upper body)
    • Troy Lee Designs padded shorts 4600/5605
    • Troy Lee Designs 5955 chest body guard (hard, has shoulder armor but no elbow?)
    • Troy Lee Designs 5900 Chest protector (hard, no shoulder armor)
    • TLD 7855 Protective LS shirt (soft, full upper body)
    • POC Spine VPD 2.0 Jacket (soft, full upper body)
    • Alpinestars Bionic Action Jacket (soft, full upper body)

Any tips would be massively appreciated. I'm open to changing anything for improvement. Cost isn't really an issue. This setup is fully for downhill. I have other gear for general purpose trail riding.

Wow. That's way more stuff then I wore racing MX. Of course I'm crippled and brain damaged, so maybe I should have worn more.
    Do the math.

Yeah, getting a bit sidetracked, but hereís my dirt bike trail riding gear:
    - Sidi Crossfire 3 SRS
    - Klim Mohave ITB pants/jersey
    - Mobius knee braces
    - Leatt 5.5 body protector
    - Leatt GPX 5.5 neck brace
    - Shoei VFX-W helmet
    - 100% Racecraft goggles

Maybe thatíll give a little frame of reference for those who know both sports.

Due to the sales today, I just ended up getting a Leatt 3DF Airfit Lite body protector and a couple Mobius wrist braces (I'll try them on both the dirt bike and the mtb). I doubt most mtb riders would use the Mobius wrist braces, but it's worth a shot to me.

I used to downhill with an old Bell helmet that was really just a road bike helmet, fingerless gloves, tennis shoes, and Fox elbow guards. Recently got back into mtn biking and just bought a Bell Super DH helmet. 20 years older will make you scared of crashing.

You could just wear your MX gear, for the most part it's the same thing as DH bike gear (there is no [pedal] bike-specific CE label, they use motorcycle testing), and many full-face bike helmets are DOT certified.

I think you're crazy to even think about riding with wrist braces. I've hurt my wrists too, but I don't see how you could control the bike with your wrists basically splinted.
