Difference between MTB and Road bike jerseys?

Basically what the title says. Is there a difference between mtb jerseys and road jerseys or are they the same?

road jerseys are usually pretty tight, have pockets at the back a short or full length zip down the front and elastic around the bottom and sleeves.
Mtb jerseys are usually a lot looser and more of a T Shirt style but made out of more high tech sort of fabrics to wick sweat.

Depends on the look you are after...

If you want a freeride/downhill/enduro jersey, its usually more of a tee shirt style.

If you are more of an XC/trail/racer you can get "roadie" style jerseys in different cuts, club cut, race cut ect... these come in lycra style material and feature pockets on the back, also can be full zip or half zip. The club cut is a looser fit and a tad longer.

Personally I wear race cut jerseys, the design is great and works really well, I'm no 140lb racer either, I stuff 200lb into an XXL and suck my gut in

Now.. wearing lycra jerseys (road style jerseys) on the trail doesn't make you a roadie... there are many really cool XC MTB jerseys out there without classing it roadie team wear like BMC, ASTANA, LOTTO BELISOL and tippy tapping around looking like a power ranger

The type of jersey you choose is not just about style IMO.

Road and mtb jerseys are both available in snug fitting "race cut" versions which is desirable if you utilize the back pockets, if you use a hydration pack it doesn't really matter.
