Acting my shoes size, not my age - Crockett Hills/Hilride Site Visit

A fellow BTCEB member and I met Jim Townsend from EBRPD out at Crockett Hills to walk the sections where the new multi-use narrow trails will be. This isn't a park I had ever visited nor wanted to visit...until now. It was like being 12 years old again looking for the perfect spot to build the fort. Once these trails are built I can see the park being a fun place to ride with some nice sections through the wooded areas and some super swoopy places up towards the ridge. Great views too.

Nat from Hilride must have known to win my vote all it would take would be pink flags. (OK, I'm not that easy but I must compliment him on his color choice)

Somehow this was off my radar

and I missed it. Thanks for taking the pictures. I think this place holds a great deal of promise for many reasons and look forward to being a part of helping it happen.

Oh c'mon - you are that easy when it comes to PINK!!! I have driven along and looked up into that area many times and wondered if there was anything "good" up there... Looks really nice! Wouldn't it be nice to have an East Bay park with lots of fun, swoopy singletrack(or even -ish) stuff? I like the way the land lies out there - looks like fun! How long before we can start building trails out there?

Yeah, I am that easy. ;-)

There ain't anything good out there now. Just the same ol' boring fireroads with stoopid crazy steepness that no one wants to walk BUT there will be once this project is finished! The first section has two existing fireroads that are pretty ho-hum to walk but the Hilride trail cuts a super fun trail through the trees with ferns and switchbacks and trees. It's obvious they know what makes a trail 'fun'!! The ride section, once complete, would be a great place for newer rides too. Nice grades, good views.

Can't quote a start date. Like an inch worm, it's making it's way through the 'system'. A few more hurdles to cross but we're all hopeful that we'll be riding it in 2009 (that's the best I can publish for now).

Izzat off of Crockett Blvd near the high school for a starting point?
Would be nice to have such an option around there as the inlaws live in Crockett.

The staging area is off of Crockett Blvd but I don't know the area well enough to know where the high school is.

It certainly piqued my interest about being able to ride some fun stuff closer to home. With the exception of JMP, it gets tiresome having to drive to the north bay or south bay to find flowy multi-use trails.

    Thanks for the photos!

Good to see pics of the terrain. Sorry I couldn't make it out there - looks like a fun place with good diversity of terrain. Let's all make sure to thank folks at EBRPD as this moves through the system to show appreciation for their help.

My guess is going to be "no" since that dirt is the same glop that Briones has when wet.
