New question here. Rear derailleur 9 speed on 8 speed cassette. Deore vs Alivio???

My bike has 8 speed cassette and came with shimano Acera derailleur.
I need a new derailleur but I don't know if buy Alivio or Deore. Alivio is 7/8 speed and Deore is 9 speed.
What is the difference between Alivio and Deore.

Also to add, Deore is all metal where as Alivio has had some plastic and other cost cutting measures in the past. I have not seen the latest Alivio in person, but I'd get Deore.

There is two versions of Alivio 8 speed and 9 speed.

    Alivio 8-speed

    Alivio 9-Speed

    Alivio 8-speed

    Alivio 9-Speed

Yep, as my post says. The 9 speed is essentially the old 9 speed deore derailleur. Deore has moved to 10 speed but yes 9 speed still exist. All three are inexpensive derailleurs and will work just fine for you bike, just pick one.

The M592 models work really well, I've installed many. They are all metal and do take a beating. A few years ago, I upgraded from the older Shimano style (LX M571 XT M760) with the cable loop and there was an immediate improvement.
