General Sizing Question (Specifically, moving from Scott Genius to Enduro Bike)

Hey folks - I have a general sizing question. I just got rid of my 2016 Scott Genius, and was looking to get into something with a bit more travel. Unfortunately most of the bikes I'm looking at I can't demo, so trying to match geometry online and getting a bit confused. I'm 6'4", so would have assumed I need an XL, but in looking at the reach of Enduro bikes (for example, Mondraker Foxy or Dune) I'm seeing that a large might be OK. Is there a reason for needing this additional reach on a longer travel bike that I don't understand? And at 6'4" getting a Large in any brand basically seems like a mistake, right?

I can't imagine anyone your height on anything but an XL. I'm 5'9" and had a medium Mondraker Vantage hardtail which is sized very much like the Foxy. It fit perfectly normal, and did not feel big at all.
I got some bad ideas in my head.

The Foxy 29 isn't all that long. The reach is 510mm which is about 5mm longer than the latest Genius. I'm a hair under 6'5" and without question would go for the XL if I was buying the Mondraker. With the 30mm stem it's not going to feel long at all. I'd probably change that to a 40 or 45mm stem.

    You need a XL.

Reach is unrelated to size if you're looking at more than one model.

It depends also on your riding inseam not just your height. If you have long legs for your height that makes your torso shorter than some other 6'4" guy with short legs. Short leg guy needs more reach than long leg guy.
