New question here. Can someone tell me what year this Scalpel is? Is it Al or Carbon?

I'm getting a second hand Scalpel. I was told that it's aluminum, 2008 bike. I googled it, but the model looks like a scalpel team 2008/2009 (carbon). I know that there's a recall for 2008 model, serial #:

    8AVPFR Scalpel Frameset
    8VPO Scalpel Team
    8VP1 Scalpel 1
    8VP2 Scalpel 2

I was told the serial is 8B****. Can someone tell me what year and model?

interesting find. I had a 2008 Scalpel but it was the carbon frame version. That is definitely an aluminum frame but it has a higher end build and the team paint job.

Back in the day they used to outfit the regional teams with bikes that weren't exactly the off the shelf spec. I wonder if that is where it came from.

Regardless it was a sweet bike in it's day and super fast. The lefty forks of that time were pretty high maintenance but nothing beat them at the time in terms of performance. Those Juicy brakes were for the most part pretty terrible though.

I can't figure out why he said it's aluminum. I'm checking it out tomorrow. I don't think he did a paint job on that.

How would I know if it's a carbon or aluminum? I wish it would be a carbon. I got a good deal on that.

So finally went and check the bike and bought it. It's a 2008 scalpel team (carbon frame). And it's not a recall
from Cannondale. Got it fairly cheap.

Yeah, it's in a very good shape. Got it for around 700$US. Rear shock might need to be serviced. It's not locking.

You might want to be asking in the Cannondale forum, this isn't really an "all mountain" bike.

Definitely had me fooled. Looking at that bb area I was sure it was welded aluminum.

    xc bike all the way.

yeah, also definitely aluminum. You can even see where the carbon chainstays are bonded to the aluminum bits of the rest of the frame.

Probably. People are still selling over 1500$ Cad here. Not the same market as US.
