2019 YT Jeffsy AL BASE vs Motobecane HAL Boost EAGLE LTD (Bikes Direct)

There seems to be more than a few choices these days when it comes to 'budget' trail bikes. Two come to mind - the 2019 YT Jeffsy AL BASE and the Bikes Direct Motobecane HAL Boost EAGLE LTD.

Motobecane is $1,999, YT Jeffsy is $2,299. The worst part about the Motobecane is the crappy externally routed dropper - the frame includes an internal route, so that would have to be replaced before the first ride. Replace that, you've got quite a component spec for the price. Even though the YT is $300 more, you have a fairly even apples-to-apples comparison regarding component spec when you consider the YT comes with a decent dropper. And the frame on the YT is probably a bit more modern regarding geometry versus the catalog Kinesis frame from BD. But the Pike fork on the BD - very nice! YT does seem more mainstream and a much better brand and customer service. So at that price point, I think YT is the way to go. IMHO...

What say you? Anyone have one of these two bikes already?

Jeffsy would be a no brainer.

I would choose the Jeffsy without question.

It has a much better frame with contemporary geometry.

The AL Jeffsy didn't get the updated geo the CF version got. Maybe next season.

The other thing about the Jeffsy that separates it from a lot of lower-price builds is DT hubs. Just about everything else under about 2500 has no-namenovatechformula hubs.

The Geo above is from 2018, same as the 2019 AL.
I'm also hoping the AL gets the updated Geo for 2020..

The DT Swiss M 1900 SPLINE uses a pawl type rear hub. Not the ratchet type. But it can be upgraded with parts to a ratchet type.

The YT will have more resale value.

    Seriously?

Of all things cycling related, routing a dropper internally or externally has to be the least consequential thing ever.

The frame is the worst part of the moto, and you cant change that. YT wins on the frame alone.
