2018 Canyon Spectral CF 8.0 vs 2019 Canyon Spectral CF 7.0

I am looking to buy a new bike. I started biking early 2018 and have really taken to it. I ride a few times per week and have been consistently improving. I've been hitting more technical trails and improving my times. My current bike has been great but I feel I've outgrown it and looking for something with more travel (120mm currently) and better quality components for mid-$3K or less.

That brings be to this question. Which would you choose from the 2 bikes in the title?

    2018 Spectral CF 8.0 for $3500: https://www.canyon.com/en-us/mtb/spe...pectral-cf-8-0
    2019 Spectral CF 7.0 for $3800: https://www.canyon.com/en-us/mtb/spe...pectral-cf-7-0
    Side by side comparison: https://www.canyon.com/en-us/buying-...317&bike2=4562

I am asking because the 2018 seems better than the 2019 to me, and costs $300 less. What am I missing?

The 2019 has 10mm more travel front and rear. That aside, the 2018 seems to have a better fork (Pike RCT3 > Pike RC), dropper (Reverb vs Canyon's Iridium), and wheels (DT Swiss 1700 > DT Swiss 1900) and is $300 less. The 2019 has a better rear shock (RockShox Super Deluxe RCT > RockShox Deluxe RT) though.

The 2018 cockpit is mostly Race Face Aeffect while the 2019 has a Canyon G5 cockpit.

They are close enough in price to consider both options. Which would you buy and why?

I am a long time lurker, but this is my first time posting, hello world!

    Thanks!

The 2018 because the wheels are significantly nicer. Also i wouldnt need a piggyback shock like the super deluxe.

Thanks for the input! What type of real world difference do the better wheels make? I know you can upgrade the ratchet in the 1700s and it's a little lighter, but what would you notice on a ride?

The differences in the wheels will not be hugely noticeable on the trail. The major difference is the ratchet freehub in the 1700 vs the pawl system in the 1900 wheels. The ratchets are very durable and low maintenance. Yes you can swapthe ratchets for 54 point engagement if that is your cup of tea, but i like the dt ratchet hubs for durability and longevity.
