Work Day @ Mooseberry Mesa 8/18

We interupt your lives to bring you the following important announcement so check your calendars, cancel whatever trivial things you thought you had planned, and join us in a group grovel at Mooseberry Mesa where we will attempt to drive the golden spike on our new loop.

    Official Announcement:

    Saturday, August 18th
TRAIL CARE DAY - Mooseberry Mesa Trail (at Crevasse-Moraine)

Mooseberry Mesa Trail - A completely hand-made singletrack trail in the Crevasse Moraine trail system. Beautifully designed for mountain bikers and hikers by Wildfire and the VMBaH trail gang. We need your help to get the final section roughed in and put some finishing touches on the middle section. Please come on out and help VMBaH get this trail done so we can all enjoy it.

When & Where - Meet at 10:00 a.m. at the Crevasse Moraine Trailhead - south of the Palmer Wasilla Highway off Loma Pieta Drive.

What to bring - Personal gear should include lunch, water and gloves, mosquito/bug repellent and appropriate clothing (which should include rain gear). Tools that are helpful: long handled loppers and bow saws. * VMBaH will have Pulaskis and McLeods for use.

Please contact Mark Gronewald at 745-2453 evenings for more information.

Bring your friends. Many hands make light work!

Caution; Merge; Workers Ahead! It's still a go.

The work day is still on. See above for the info. I'm bringing a chainsaw and we'll have a primo selection of Pulaski's and McCleods eager to bite into Mooseberry dirt. The new loop is looking good but we still have some hacking to do. We'll have two BOB trailers to haul in the arsenal, so show up and fling some duff. The customary tailgate party will follow at 4:00 pm and we'll have some liquid refreshments for all workers and feel free to bring some snacks as well. See you there.

    Thanks to all who showed

We had 10 people show up for the trail day and we got a lot done. Thanks a ton, everyone The new 1/2 mile singletrack loop off Mooseberry Mesa is now ridable but still needs a little more work (always does). There's quite a few nice banked turns and I think everyone will be happy to ride it. Next workday is September 8. Good job.

Rode the new and old loop today. The new one is fun and will be even more fun as soon as some more people ride it (Dirt needs to get packed down). You guys did a hell of a job, I'll be out helping in September.

    How to get there.

Just go to either Crevasse Moraine Trailhead at the end of Loma Prieta off MP2 of the Palmer Wazoola Highway or Kepler Bradley Park off the Glenn Highway. Negotiate the maze of trails until you find any sign kiosk in CrevMo, then navigate your way to the south end of the "8" loop. The fabled entrance portal to Mooseberry Mesa is distinguished by a burly arch that says, you guessed it: "Mooseberry Mesa Trail". Enjoy and please don'ta skidda da corners.
The new trail is to the right at the first intersection on the ridgetop.
