    Winter bike race question(s)

I was wondering what is done for water (re-hydration) on the long winter races like the Sheep Mtn 150 and Susitna 100? Is there water available at the check points or do you have to melt water if you run out? If water is available how much is roughly needed to make it between check points?

I was also wondering about food; I read one thread that was a race report that mentioned food at a check point and I was wondering if that is provided or you pay for that or if that was just an odd part of the report I was reading.

    Thanks for the help,

There has been water available at every checkpoint I've been to.

The amount of water you need between checkpoints varies and is influenced by weather, effort, personal physiology and I'm sure several other factors. @10oz per hour is my general rule.

Food is sometimes provided 'free'(included in your entry fee) at checkpoints, and sometimes you have to pay for it. Depends on the race and the checkpoint. Even if it's included, sometimes it's appropriate to leave a tip at the checkpoint.
