    Weekend riding recommendations?

I'm thinking about a weekend fat biking trip outside of Anchorage. I've really only biked in Anchorage and Palmer, but I was thinking more like Talkeetna or even down on the peninsula. Any recommendations on where to go? Trail maps/conditions, or places to go that are off the beaten path? Thanks in advance!

If you're looking for firm conditions south of town, Johnson Pass (highest elevation) is probably a good option. Although almost anything should be good if you get on it early...at least for the next few days that is. Gold mint trail out of Hatcher Pass would be another one.

Rode the Stampede trail out of Healy Saturday, all the way to the Magic 142 buss. It is 20 miles one way but we made it in less than 3 hours. While no snow in Healy, the trail was hard pack snow from snowmachines and dog sleds. It was a beautiful day and great conditions. May still be good next weekend but what snow is around, probably isn't going to last long with the higher temperatures. The cold temps at night are helping the Stampede trail stay nice and firm. Highly recommend this trip, it was so much fun with caribou, dog sleds and a couple of fat bikes that rode from Fairbanks. Aurora's were good to on Friday night while driving up.

Nice photo...seems this ride has been catching on! We rode the north route to the bus which looks like the river crossing you posted as it had open areas and talked to us as we crossed. On the way back, we took the southern route which was completely frozen over. Great photo of the bus....that poor thing has seen it's fare share of humans.

I took the south route out on the high ground with the caribou, but the trail was thin and melting fast. On the way back to the truck I took the north route in the river bottom. I'll try to upload the photo vs a link.

I just got back from 3 days on the trail in Lake Louise riding down to Tolsona Lake via Crosswind Lake. The temps were warm trails nice snow was deep and the lodge was fun. I heard some snow machiners road from Lake Louise to Susitna Lake up to the Denali Hwy to McLaren. That would be a fun trip through the alphabet hills.
