    Trails at Alyeska

    Hello fellow bikers,

There has been some off and on talk of the trails that are being constructed in Girdwood/at Alyeska. This, coupled with an upcoming story on the trails in the ADN as well as an upcoming spot on the Ch. 2 News, means that it is time to dispel some rumors and clear up any misunderstandings that may come about in the very near future.

We have two trails (one ascending, one descending) that are currently open for you to ride:

The ascending trail (Bear Cub) departs from the hotel and heads up Blueberry Hill, traversing with switchbacks across the chair 7 run. The climb is approximately 1 mile and will exit the rider on to the existing access road. You can then continue your climb on the road up to the top of chair 7. There is some construction at the base of the climb, please be cautious of our mess

At the top of Chair 7, descending the Christmas Run is the downhill specific slalom type trail; ďChristmas in July.Ē This is a swooping, banked run that will treat the rider to smooth, flowing turns. For the gravity oriented rider, you may turn around and hike up the access road that cuts straight up the run. Just be cautious of descending riders. If you wish to make a loop out of the two open trails, you can hitch back up with the Girdwood bike path, back to the hotel.

Now, on to our third trail: The Blueberry Pancake. This trail is currently CLOSED to all traffic, but will be open for the August 23rd Blueberry festival for its grand debut.
This will be a descending/downhill specific trail that features raised tread, banked corners, rolling features and flow flow flow flooowwww. You absolutely, do not need a downhill bike on this trail. Your cross country bike will suffice. IMBA rating is a Green Circle (easy). Once opened, you will be able to use the Bear Cub trail to ride to the top of the Blueberry Pancake, creating yet another trail loop.

Gravity folks: Donít fret! These trails are sure to keep you entertained. While they are geared for ALL riders, keep your eyes open, there are tasty nugs throughout. *wink*

XC folks: Donít fret! These are for you too. Get your heart rate up on the climb and keep it up on the descent. *wink*

Hope to see you out there,
Alyeska Resort, Hiking and Biking trail crew.

Thaks for the update. The rumors and grumblings are pervasive in Anchorage--I myself have grown weary of the whole conversation, although I fail to keep myself out of it at every presented opportunity. A little communication will goes a long way...

Thanks again--now can anyone spot me for $5/gallon diesel...?

    Whoaaaaa dude...

Trails for the downhill park at Alyeska look great. We rode up there yesterday to check them out, and get some hill climbing in. We made it up to the tram house with very few hike a bike spots. Two actually. We came down and planned to ride Winner Creek. We did, and rather than taking the left to the gorge we went right. Upper Winner Creek Trail. All I can say is, that might be my new favorite ride. Technical, barely muddy, a few hiking sections but incredible riding. We stopped short of the end because we hadn't planned on going on such a long ride. I guess it goes to the top of the pass up there. Sorry if I'm blabbering about the obvious. I've been riding up here a while and haven't heard a peep about this place. Best ride of the year.

Brian, you can park at the extended hotel parking area (drive past the hotel, take a left at the T.) You dont have to check in or anything, just ride my man. Thank you for the offer of a donation, but we are all good.

Hope to see you out there!

Good job! Alyeska KICK A$$!!! New DH section!!!

Mt. ALYESKA has one of the new DH sections open. You have two ways to start at chair 7. It runs along to the right of chair 3, it zig zags cross the mountain with bank turns, then you stop at the bar at the bottom??? What a great way to end the run (only if I drank)... Our son took some pictures, but it doesn't show the trail it's self...
BikesRGood give my son and I a snick peak at the new trail that opens the 23rd. SIC!!!
I tried to get some secret photo's, but he said no...
THANKS!!! for the tour BikesRGood. I saw Warren and his gang out there KICKIN' A$$!!! getting the rest of the trails done... SIC!!! new bike Warren...
You guys need to head out and check out these new trails. Getting up to chair 7, you have to CLIMB, for all of you XC JUNKIES... I was huffin' an a puffin', but we made it...

Good job! Alyeska Blueberry Pancake was SIC!!!

Alyeska Blueberry Pancake was SIC!!! We didn't make it opening day. But we rode it this pass Monday. What can I say??? AWESOME. It has a lot of wooden bridges with banked wooden turns, tight single track that twists all threw the trail. It was raining most of the time we were there. So the wood and trail was very greasy... There was a lot of crashes Monday... I all most ate it a couple times... You don't need a freeride or downhill bike. I was riding my Prophet 2. A couple people were riding HT's. A XC or All-Mountain should be fine...
Here's a short clip of a new trail at Mt. Alyeska, Blueberry Pan Cake... I'm the dood in the red Fox Jersey... I didn't do a lot of filmin'. I just wanted to RIDE!!!

    Short clip... I LOVE filming...

Warn and the Alyeska crew out did themselves on this one...
