Overnight Fat Bike destinations this winter

I've got the winter biking bug and since I'm laying low with a bad back today I've been reading/dreaming way too much about future rides.

Does anyone have some good overnight suggestions for the weekend warrior? I'm looking in particular for places that would be fun to ride into that have some sort of accommodation for the night. Forrest service cabin, lodge, etc.

I'm not opposed to camping and have the gear, but a warm place at the end of the day is really nice with a glass of something gentlemanly.

Obviously it would need to be somewhere where there is likely going to be set trail.

Some you guys are heros and post away your killer ideas, but I think I'd better limit my distance to places under 20 miles to start with.

The kenai has several good options, but you'll need to book the cabins soon. Lost lake, Ressurection, Russian Lakes and Devil's Pass all have cabins with less than a 20 mile ride in. If you're north, the White Mountains has tons of options.

Thanks Sean I had wondered about Russian lakes cabins but didn't know if enough people go back there in winter to pack a trail. The others I know are more popular but again I wasn't sure how rideable those trails were in winter. I start poking around the booking sites and see what's still available.

The Manatoba Yurts are a short ride in and the miner has some good packed snowgo trails packed around the area from the parking lot to the gravel pit to Summit Lake. Not a big ride but fun to get out in the woods none the less. MP 49 Seward Hwy I think? Stop at Portage ride to the glacier then keep on driving down to the huts at Summit.

BTW Alaksa Huts just put in a new Sauna down there also. My hot suana face.

There are a few public use cabins in Nancy Lake State Recreation Area. You can make reservations through the Alaska State Parks website. The Red Shirt Lake cabin usually have a decent trail to it.

A bit further from home, I've ridden to the May Creek cabin about 12 miles south of McCarthy (involves crossing the frozen Nizina River but not a problem when we did it in March one year). There was a snowmachine trail the whole way then, but no guarantees. There's also a cabin up Bernard Creek accessible from the Richardson Highway.

Awesome! Thanks. Nancy lake is nice and close by too. May creek and Bernard creek sound great and I have a love affair with that part of the state.

A bit of a drive if you are in the Anchorage area, but the Chena Rec Area ( Chena River State Recreation Area, Alaska State Parks ) has a great trails and nice cabins, and everything is under 10 miles from a trail head. Other options include the White Mountains (BLM Alaska: White Mountains National Recreation Area) which has fantastic biking in the spring, and more afield, Tolovana hot springs (Tolovana Hot Springs) is a great place to visit. Have fun!
