Moose Slide Slalom Jan 10 Hatcher Pass

Don't forget VMBaH's Moose Slide Slalom this Saturday Jan 10 at the Mat-Su Borough's sledding hill in Hatcher Pass, mile 10.6 (left side of road, just before state picnic area on right). Registration is 11:30, race starts at noon. There should be signs for Winter Trails Day along the road where you turn.

Race the clock on a groomed downhill course with bamboo gates. Combined best two times of three runs count for your ranking. Free. There'll also be snowshoe and XC ski demos, sledding, warming fires, and hot chocolate as part of the Mat-Su Borough Winter Trails Day, so something for everyone in the family.

Oh, and everyone lived last year - although to look at some expressions, it was questionable at times!!

More details, including pictures from last year, on Moose Slide Slalom

Also, regarding our summer Mooseberry Stampede, we're looking into having it in mid-June (June 13 Sat) in conjunction with Palmer's Colony Days celebration. Nothing definite yet. Our full race schedule is on VMBaH races

    Hatcher Pass Downhill

Okay guys and girls the entry fee is right! It's free minus whatever skin and blood you leave on the snowpack.
Kathi M and I hope to see some of our "city folk" friends at the VMBAH Hatcher Pass downhill.
    Happy New Year
    Bill and Kathi

    Moose Slide Slalom Course preview

Here's some previews of the course Wildfire and Bill set and tested for your enjoyment. They're on picasa until I figure out how to post pics here. (hitting image icon and including url didn't work)

See you all tomorrow for some riding sliding fun in the sun. Oh, and HP tends to be a little warmer than the valleys.

    Moose Slide 2009 results

Congratulations to Cory Kucera and Keri Dean for winning the men's and women's divisions, respectively of the 2nd annual Moose Slide Slalom. And congrats also to Howie Powder for winning the unicycle division. Thanks to the 14 racers who enjoyed a beautiful day in Hatcher Pass perched above the much colder valleys. A few spills, chills, and missed gates created an exciting race. Results are here: www.tinyurl.com/mooseslide

Thanks to Matanuska-Susitna Borough for sponsoring the Winter Trails Day which also included snowshoeing, xc skiing, burn barrel, sledding, and snow boarding for folks of all ages. REI was there with a van of skis and snowshoes for folks to try. Great day to get out in the sun for lots of folks.

We hope to have some pictures up when people get them to me.

Next race in the VMBaH Cup Series is Feb 8, VaMoose 25 as part of Willow Winter Carnival. Once again, lots of things for folks to do while enjoying winter.

Yes, my element. Skidding, careening and tipping over. It would have been easier on skis, but it was lots of fun. Thanks to the organizers.

keri it seems your skiing always included lots of careening, sliding and headplants , so in 20 years all that's changed is your mode of destruction
