Mat Su Trails - Solstice Ride

All, any reports on the quality of the trails in MatSu? I've been in Anchorage riding on the weekends lately as my kids have been having ski races, so I've not gotten out on the trails like I would like to.

I ask as I'd like to put together a solstice ride for Sunday night, but won't have time to check out the trails before then to see what the options are.

    Here's the tentative details:

Meet at the Trunk Road park'n'ride at 8:15 PM Sunday December 21. Layout trails options:
    1) Matsu Greenbelt trails going in at the college -
    2) MatSu Greenbelt trails going in at Matsu Lake
    3) Government Peak - park either at the gate or at Turner's and ride to the trails
    4) Combo-Park at Government Peak campground, bike up to Goldmint and then up to Archangel - call it the climber's special.

Bike for a few hours, return to the cars, burn some wood, share some drinks and/or food stuffs, chat, etc. etc.

A splendid time is sure to be had.

Regardless of which route option the group selects, the ride is meant to be fairly laid back. Spouses and kids are welcome. I'd also wager that this particularly year skinny or fat will work for any of these trails. The upper elevation trails maybe not so much...It's your bike and your body, you make the cal

Barring a big dumping, Gold Mint should be bomber up to at least mile 4 or so.

Anyone still wanting to do a ride today?

IDK what Gov. Peak is like this week but I'm gonna guess it's icy and hard like every other trail.

I would suggest the Mat river park. Esp. If your interested in doing a fire. Several of the campsite fire rings have wood already loaded and ready to burn

I think I might bag it. Conditions were so nice on anchorage today I ended up riding for nearly 3 hours this morning and things just look a bit icy crapy up here now. If we get a miracle and some snow yet this afternoon, I may change my mind.
