    Kepler Work Day 5/31

Valley Mountain Bikers and Hikers are holding a trail work day this Sunday. We are hoping that we can eliminate or at least transform the really crappy, poorly planned, ad-hoc section of muddy social trail just above the new planned, nicely drained, designed, permitted, hand built, and pretty darn scenic trail at Long Lake by the judicious use of ditching and scientific application of gravel. This is one of the worst remaining areas of Kepler that we have not yet sanitized so feel free to join us.

Sunday May 30 10am to 3pm. Long lake Trailhead in Kepler Bradley SRA. Turn off the Glenn Highway at Colleen Dr at the old Farmers Market and follow the little fish signs back to the trailhead. Bring a wheelbarrow, shovel, gravel bucket, whatever and we'll also have Pulaskis and McCleods. Heck, you could probably even get a ride in afterward. With the new paving and yellow center line, you won't get lost but make sure you pay attention to the one-way signs.

    Lost in the Ozone

Sorry about that, I had it right the first time. It's Sunday the 31st. Mea culpa and thanks for catching that.

    Don't miss it!

An added bonus of tomorrow's trail work day will be the unveiling of the amazing new Acme/VMBaH/Wildfire "Sanimal" Trail Sanitizing Machine. In one end goes any sort of annoying thing like roots, log crossings, social trails, Sierra clubbers, freeriders, alders, technical trail features, mud bogs, rocks, daisys, bluebirds, mosquitoes, bunnys, etc. and out the other comes a perfectly sanitized, politically correct, fabulously drained, optimally treaded antisocial trail pre-approved by all land management agencies. This baby's gonna revolutionize trail building and maintenance.. Reserve yours now!

But seriously, the trail work day is still on. We promise not to wreck anything too bad but I have to warn you: a mud hole is going to die. (Graphic content may not be suitable for children and those with sensitive natures)

And there'll be free VMBaH t-shirts and calendars (2009) for those that work a full day tomorrow.

And you'll get to voice an opinion, provide some suggestions, on some trail sign designs for Matanuska Greenbelt. A state-parks approved laminated version will make its debut on the posts by the super, duper reroute that was built a month ago. They are still being revised and may vary a bit by land manager, so we are interested in comments.

Oh, and your help will improve your race times in both the Mooseberry Stampede and the 24-hr with one less obstacle.

So it's a don't-miss trails work day. See you there.

The Sanimal is equipped with the latest in laser aligned, gps enabled, flow cancelling, coreolis force-resistant technology for the ultimate in straightness complete with sidewalks and espresso stands. And, thanks to the Sanimal, future mountain bikes wil be lighter and simpler due to the elimination of the headset mechanism. Since there will be no need to steer, forks will simply be welded right on to the frame in a straight-ahead position. I'm tellin' you, this thing rocks.
