    Eklutna Lake ?

Has anyone been out there yet this winter ? I was thinking of scoping it out this weekend,if the lake is frozen enough.

    Give it time

From what I have heard,Eklutna lake gets thin spots in the ice. How,where or why I do not know. So,you may want to wait until the ice is very very thick. That way the thinner spots will still be thick enough for travel. I don't think it has been cold long enough. The trail should be pretty good. If you find out more info, please let us know.

    Eklutna Ice

Eklutna Lake can be sketchy ANY TIME. Because of how fast water is pulled out of Eklutna to feed Anchorage combined with "warm" spots the ice can be pretty unpredictable. It makes me nervous any time of year and playing/riding on frozen lakes and rivers is one of my favorite winter sports. There is even a bike or two on the bottom of the lake. Luckily the bikers got out. You surely don't want to try it yet and when you do BE Careful. The road around the lake and out past Serenity Falls is probably good and the lighting this time of year makes for great pics. Bill M
ps. Word is there is you can cross the Little SU, 9" of ice on Flathorn and machines have been going up the Yentna. Hope to get out that way later this week and I will post what we find.
